Tuscany's little sister, Umbria, is a region of beauty, art and history. The rolling emerald hills are home to pristine vineyards, fragrant olive groves and medieval hilltop towns and villages. Your countryside escape is a tranquil 14th-century converted monastery, perfect for kicking back and recharging your batteries. Umbria is also known for offering one of the best cuisines in the country, both in its skilful fine-dining scene and its indulgent grab-and-go delights. And then there’s the wine: sometimes silky, sometimes spicy but always memorable. When you’re ready to peel yourself away from the peaceful oasis of the monastery, head out on a private tour of Assisi with a knowledgeable local guide.
The marvels of art you can admire in the city's basilicas illustrate the astonishing diversity of its architecture. Other activities our team can arrange include horse-riding adventures, tailored exercise classes and a private tour of Perugia. You are also in striking distance of a host of high-quality sites, monuments and museums, including the Basilica of St Francis of Assisi, the Duomo in Siena and the Fontana Maggiore in Perugia.

Your hotel in Parrano:

Your home while you are in Umbria is a 14th-century converted monastery nestled in the middle of the woods. With white stone facades, soaring pillars and narrow corridors, the architecture is austere, but above all, beautiful. Nutritious vegetarian meals (prepared with produce from the monastery’s vegetable garden) are served in a grand refractory with long oak tables and a huge fireplace. There is also a yoga room, relaxation area and steam bath perfect for winding down after a long walk in the countryside. Life here is lived slowly, peacefully and spiritually, making it the perfect place to temporarily disconnect from the pace of modern life.

PRIVATE TOUR OF PERUGIA

While not as famous as Florence or Siena, the Umbiran capital of Perugia rivals both cities when it comes to historic and cultural delights. This private tour kicks off at the 15th-century San Lorenzo Cathedral. From here you can climb a marble staircase to the Fontana Maggiore, a beautiful 13th-century building. Continue on to Corso Vannucci, the main street winding through old Perugia, to admire the grand 15th-century Palazzo dei Priori, the 18th-century Palazzo Donini and the iconic Sandri patisserie. From here you’ll head underground to explore the medieval foundations of the Rocca Paolina, a fortress designed by Pope Paul III in the early 1540s to impress the Perugians.
