Itinerary

100% customisable for you

Your journey begins with a two-hour flight from London to Genoa, which is the most convenient airport for a trip to the Italian Riviera. When you land, pick up your hire car for the fifty-minute drive to Portofino, where your handsome hotel or villa awaits.

Once you’ve checked in and unpacked, get your bearings with a scenic stroll around the area (and perhaps a walk to the beach if it’s nearby). This evening, enjoy your first romantic meal and toast the start of a special trip.

This morning, set sail for a half-day tour of the Portofino Marine Park. The Italian Riviera is impossibly romantic, and what could be more idyllic than indulging in your own private boat trip around a captivating corner of this coastline?

After boarding the boat in Portofino, your expert skipper will skirt around the castle and lighthouse, before following the coast to San Fruttuoso. Here a Benedictine monastery and church are nestled in a hidden cove next to a blissful beach, alongside traditional fishermen’s houses and the historic Doria Tower.

The tour continues towards the Gulf of Paradiso on the Riviera di Levante, home to the colourful seaside village of Camogli. As you return to Portofino, look forward to spending the remainder of the day and evening at your leisure, reminiscing on the romance of your blissful boat trip.

After a delicious Italian breakfast, your third day offers the freedom to explore as you wish. Portofino National Park is a haven for hikers and a picturesque place to spend the day. There are more than 50 miles of well-marked trails to hike (or bike), and while you might not travel quite that far, even a shorter trail serves up spectacular views and endless opportunities for a scenic selfie.

If you’re in the mood for something a little more leisurely, the port city of Genoa is a gorgeous place to get lost. Wander the warren of caruggi (narrow lanes), pause for an aperitivo by the water and hunt for souvenirs in the city’s independent shops. This holiday is all about spending quality time together, so whatever you choose to do today, sharing new memories is what makes it special.

As your Riviera retreat draws to a close, it’s time to find space in the suitcase for those souvenirs, before sadly heading home. Make your way back to Genoa for the two-hour flight to London, where you’ll land feeling refreshed and relaxed after your romantic break.

Suggestions

Everything in this itinerary is entirely customisable, down to the smallest details. Here are some more suggestions of what could be included

HIKING IN THE PORTOFINO NATIONAL PARK

Covering an area of 3,700 acres and with over 50 miles of well-marked trails, the Portofino National Park is a paradise for hiking enthusiasts. Head off into the heart of the park in the company of a knowledgeable local guide, who will lead you on a scenic three-and-a-half-mile route. Except for an initial steep climb, the majority of this trail is fairly easy, so you can focus on drinking in the views. Along the way, admire this relatively wild natural environment, which is made up of steep cliffs, seaside villages and traditional hamlets rich in art and history.

A DAY IN GENOA

Italy's largest port city, Genoa, is one of the Italian Riviera’s best-kept secrets. The city is divided between a characterful old town and a seafront of cutting-edge contemporary architecture. In the historic centre, admire the Cathedral of San Lorenzo, with its elegant façade streaked with white and black stripes; the Romanesque churches adorned with polyptychs; the delightful Piazza San Matteo; and the sumptuous palaces on Via Garibaldi. And don’t miss indulging in local delicacies (like Genovese minestrone) at one of the city’s many excellent eateries.
