A safari and sea combo is one of our absolute favourite trips to plan, so you're in luck if that's what you've chosen for your honeymoon. On this two-week adventure, let us offer you the very best of Cape Town's city buzz, Sabi Sand's incredible wildlife, and Mozambique's paradise beaches.

Your honeymoon will begin in the buzzing city of Cape Town where you can spend the day at the beach enjoying some sunshine-filled R&R after a long flight. The next few days are all about delving into what Cape Town has to offer – Table Mountain is an obvious highlight and a trip best taken when the sun begins to dip below the horizon and the city’s twinkling lights appear – the perfect newlywed experience.
Venture south to Cape Point with a private guide and explore the vast area of land where dazzles of zebras and a plethora of birdlife freely roam. Next up is the safari section of your honeymoon in Sabi Sands, complete with luxury lodges and dream-like wildlife. From lion spotting and elusive leopard tracking to romantic meals under the stars and indulgent spa treatments, this safari adventure will be one to remember. Finally, fly north to the idyllic beaches of Mozambique’s Bazaruto Archipelago for a few days of pure relaxation before you head home.

Route

Everything is 100% tailored to you
DAY 1

International Flight

Depart from the UK on an overnight flight to Cape Town.

DAY 2

Arrive in Cape Town

After a night flight from the UK, arrive into Cape Town weary but full of excitement for the next two weeks. A private transfer driver will be waiting to collect you from the airport and whisk you into the city centre - it's only a short drive so you'll be flopping onto your hotel bed within the hour. To ease yourself into the day we suggest you start at the beach - Clifton's Second Beach is a particularly lovely spot for couples to admire the dramatic views of Table Mountain and feel the soft white sand between your toes. With a little Vitamin D absorbed it's then time to start thinking about the most important of all holiday criteria - food.

For your first night, head to Salt while it's still early and make the most of this perfect restaurant location, overlooking the Atlantic Ocean from the Ambassador Hotel on Bantry Bay. The food is great and the wine list is greater - with 70 to choose from - so you'll leave happily full, a little bit merry and ready for a good night's sleep.

DAY 3

Cape Town

Feeling refreshed and raring to go, spend today exploring the 'Mother City' and all her cultural highlights. If you happen to be in town on a Saturday The Old Biscuit Mill Market is open from 9am -2pm and is an absolute must visit for a morning filled with vintage shopping, delicious food and live music. If that isn't quite your cup of tea, how about a visit to Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens for an assault of beautiful florals? Of course a good portion of the day has to be dedicated to a trip up to the top of Table Mountain. If you time it just right you can get the cable car up while the sky is still a brilliant blue, then stay at the top for sunset and see it turn from a burning orange to twinkling black - a magical and totally romantic sight to share together as newlyweds. For a romantic dinner, continue the evening at The Test Kitchen. The hottest restaurant in Cape Town at the moment, this is the brain child of award-winning chef Luke Dale-Roberts and offers guests an intimate dining experience from either the a la carte menu, the five- or eight-course tasting menu or straight from the kitchen on a dish-by-dish basis. Get ready to toast your new marriage in style.

DAY 4

Cape Point Tour

For your second day in the city we suggest a tour out to Cape Point. We will arrange for a guide and driver to pick you up from your hotel after breakfast, and then take you through a series of quaint coastal towns on the Atlantic Seaboard, where you can stop and get out to explore, before you find yourselves at Cape Point itself. Cape Point is the most south-westerly point in all of Africa - and it's also incredibly beautiful. Spread over 7,750 hectares of land this is a playground for wildlife, from zebra to all manner of birdlife and thanks to the diversity of the landscapes, from rugged cliff edges to lush valleys, it is also filled with colourful flora. Spend the afternoon strolling among the natural landscapes and admiring the dramatic views before heading back towards Cape Town.

Stop for a traditional South African dinner along the way at Catharina's in Steenberg - pair slow-roasted springbok shank with a beautiful bottle of red and you won't be disappointed.

DAY 5

Cape Town to Sabi Sands

Today you'll be saying goodbye to Cape Town and heading east to Sabi Sands Game Reserve. The flight from Cape Town Airport to Nelspruit Airport is around two and a half hours. When you land in Nelspruit a private driver will be waiting to collect you and chauffeur you the last two and a half hours to your lodge by car. We work with a number of superb luxury lodges in Sabi Sands, but for this itinerary we're focusing on Lion Sands Ivory Lodge. This sophisticated lodge is as natural as it is luxurious, combing local materials and African art with contemporary design and plush furniture. Made up of just nine villas, Lions Sands Ivory Lodge is also incredibly private; each villa has its own terrace with floor to ceiling glass windows and a plunge pool overlooking the reserve - perfect for honeymooners.

DAY 6

Lion Sands Ivory Lodge, Sabi Sands

A luxury lodge is a nice bonus, but it's the reserve that you come to see. Spend today focused on going out on both morning and evening game drives, and spotting all the African wildlife you can imagine. Expert rangers and trackers are key to tracking the best wildlife, and so you'll be in the best hands as you spot big five game and learn all about the fascinating habits of these wild creatures.

DAY 7

Kingston Treehouse Sleep Out

After going out on this morning's game drive and filling up on a lovely breakfast, go back to your room and pack a small overnight bag, we've got a special honeymoon treat planned for you. This afternoon we've organised for you to be privately escorted to Lion Sands' ultra-exclusive, ultra-magical tree top paradise, Kingston Treehouse. After a brief tour of the area the guides will leave you alone - and totally safe - for the night with a picnic and a chilled bottle of champagne. Set at the end of a small drawbridge, in the middle of the bush, staying here is definitely an experience to tick off the bucket list. Disconnected from the world and with nothing above you but the star studded African sky, curl up in your king sized bed and sip the champagne as you try and comprehend the fact that you're a) now married and b) sleeping amongst lions, elephants and cheetahs!

DAY 8

Lion Sands Ivory Lodge, Sabi Sands

Wake up to the sounds of the African bush around you this morning. Then get up slowly as the guides arrive bearing breakfast which can be enjoyed back in bed or on the treehouse terrace. After you finish you'll be taken back to camp where you can spend the day at leisure - perhaps indulging in a spa treatment or snoozing by the pool? As evening begins to fall, take advantage of your last game drive and head out to try and spot any animals you might have missed, or simply enjoy the sunset with a sundowner or two.

DAY 9

Sabi Sands to Azura Benguerra, Mozambique

It might be your last day in South Africa but the honeymoon is far from over - you're headed to Mozambique today! With a nice early start your driver will collect you from your lodge to make the journey back to Nelspruit Airport, where you will be catching a direct flight of just over an hour to Vilanculous in Mozambique. When you arrive in Vilanculous you'll be met by the Azura Benguerra staff and shown to the private helicopter which will be waiting to fly you straight to the hotel's helipad. Transfers don't get better than this!

DAYS 10 to 13

Azura Benguerra, Mozambique

There aren't many settings more romantic than a deserted beach on a remote island, which makes Azura Benguerra the perfect honeymoon destination. Over the next five days spend your time doing very little, and loving every second. Each villa comes with its own private pool so whichever style you opt for, you'll be able to lounge in the sun in the privacy of your own space. Thanks to the attentive staff and their practice at creating the perfect honeymoon experiences you will be showered with little extras to make sure this holiday of a lifetime really is just that. For a little bit of pampering the Azura African Spa offers a range of treatments which use locally sourced products and traditional influences to nurture and rejuvenate the body. Leave after a blissful afternoon to wash away the oils in your huge bath and freshen up for a cocktail as the sun sets. A private candlelit dinner on the beach is a particular highlight and the always delicious African cuisine and fresh seafood will taste all the better when savoured under the stars.

DAY 14

International Flight

There's only one problem with a stay at Azura Benguerra - it's almost impossible to leave. Sadly the long sun drenched days in paradise have found their end and you've got to head back home. Thankfully a helicopter transfer isn't the worst way to be transferred to your flight so you should have a smile back on your face by the time you land in Vilanculous. Take a two hour flight to Johannesburg and then pick up your connection straight back to the UK.
