Overlooking the sands of what is arguably one of Sri Lanka’s most beautiful beaches, Uga Bay is a luxurious resort set in the centre of the bay of Passekudah.
This modern beach hotel has been designed in a semi-circle, allowing all 48 bedrooms and suites to have spectacular views of the coastline and beach. Guest accommodation is modern in style, with polished wood floors, neutral colour palettes and touches of lux fabrics and artworks, alongside a host of modern amenities to ensure a relaxing stay.
Beach Studios offer direct beach access, whilst Ocean Studios enjoy the best ocean views, and private balconies from which to enjoy them. The two bedroom Beach Villa and Bay Suite also come equipped with private plunge pools.
The Uga Bay restaurant looks out over the infinity pool, as it seemingly blends with the ocean. A menu of fresh seafood, sourced from the catches of local fishermen, organic produce and home grown herbs are used to create a menu of traditional Sri Lankan cuisine, as well as fusion dishes.
For relaxation, guests can retreat to the underground Uga Spa for a range of treatments, or opt to enjoy a pampering session in one of the beach cabana's, lulled into a sense of spa bliss by the ocean waves.
Whilst staying in comfort on Sri Lanka's East coast, guests can explore the pristine coral reefs on snorkel and scuba dive trips (and if they can't bear to venture far, the reef just of the beach is great too), and there is an amazing WW2 shipwreck site within reach for experienced divers. For the culture vultures, away from the beach there are traditional Hindu temples and Dutch forts to explore at Batticaloa, and Angkorian temples at Polonnaruwa.
Seen from the entrance of the hotel, the infinity pool seems to blend with the ocean in the background.
