Sitting pretty within five acres of landscaped tropical gardens, the Wallawwa is a charming, colonial style boutique hotel located conveniently close to the international airport - never before has an airport hotel looked so good. However, The Wallawwa is deserving of much more than an overnight stay, and is the perfect option for the non-city types, who still want a glimpse of bustling capital Colombo.
The 17 guestrooms and suites at The Wallawwa are set within a beautifully renovated colonial manor house, which was at one time occupied by the Royal Air Force, during WWII. Rooms and suites are classic in style, with dark wood four poster beds, draped with cream muslin, and vintage armchairs and window seats in Suites. Ensuite bathrooms include rainshowers, whilst the Mountbatten Suite also boasts a large terrazzo bathtub.
Dining at The Wallawwa is a part of the experience, with a delicious Asian Fusion a la carte menu served at The Verandah restaurant, overlooking the tropical gardens. Menu's feature the freshest, seasonal produce, and offer a wonderful introduction to Sri Lankan cuisine.
Guests can enjoy a pre or post flight pamper at the Z Spa, where treatments range from Balinese Massage, to Aroma-Mineral Clay body wraps, and with no set opening times, this is a completely bespoke spa service. Guests can also relax in the hotel swimming pool, situated in a quiet spot within the gardens. Other facilities include a library, study, boutique - where all profits go to The Wallawwa's chosen charity - and games, from croquet to Monopoly.
Should guests be staying longer than a night, there are many options to explore the local area, from an early morning visit to the bustling fish markets of Negombo, to a visit to a cigar factory, 36 acres of Gampaha Henarathgoda botanical gardens ripe for exploration, to a day trip to the capital, Colombo.
An oasis away from the city. The Wallawwa is the oldest residence of its kind in the province, which has been lovingly restored with astute attention to detail to offer charming accommodation, with the polished service of a class boutique hotel.
