Looking out over the white beaches, rock pools and sand dunes of the De Hoop Nature Reserve, Morukuru Ocean House boasts a fantastic location on the Eastern Cape’s Garden Route. Plus, the reserve is UNESCO protected so you can enjoy the beautiful coastline in peaceful isolation.
Morukuru Ocean House features five stylish suites that can accommodate eight adults and four children. The rooms are designed with space and a shabby-chic style in mind - think neutral colours and exposed beams - and are decorated with intricate furnishings and colourful detailing that draws on the culture of the area. Large glass windows frame the turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean, which is only a quick stroll away.
Whether you're craving fancy cuisine or a midnight snack, the personal chef will cater to all your dining needs. Breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, and drinks are all included in the daily rate and served at times to suit.
The house also boasts a swimming pool, private kitchen, open plan lounge equipped with a well-stocked bar, dining area, wine cellar, garden, hot tub and sundeck. Amateur astrologists will also love the telescope which is set up in the lounge. At the centre of the house is a large fireplace, which sets the tone for a lovely laidback atmosphere, encouraging you to relax in the upstairs lounge or stop to smell the flowers around the lush garden. Whatever you choose to do, the full time staff of eight - including a guide, chef, host, butler, and housekeeping - are on hand to make your stay truly memorable.
The team can also arrange all sorts of local activities such as mountain biking, sand boarding, snorkelling, caving and tennis. For more relaxed endeavours, take part in marine walks, whale watching (Southern Right Whales migrate here for calving and nursing from mid-July to November each year), nature drives and star gazing.
An extra note for the eco-conscious amongst us, you will be be pleased to hear that Ocean House is run completely off-grid, powered by solar panels, and keeping the heat in with double-glazed (panoramic) windows throughout.
From the chef to the housekeeper to the nannies, the staff here attend to your every need, making a stay at Morukuru Ocean House a wonderfully spoiling experience.
