Family owned and managed since 1933, Lion Sands private game reserve is located in the finest territory of the famous Sabi Sand Game Reserve.

The land, which has been owned and managed by the More family for four generations, stretches for miles along the perennial Sabie River that forms the natural boundary of the reserve with the Kruger National Park.

Lion Sands has three different Lodges: Lion Sands River Lodge; Lion Sands Ivory Lodge and Lion Sands 1933, each with their own particular style and with River Lodge being the most affordable.

River Lodge is the soul of Lion Sands and has been built on the banks of the Sabie River, positioned on a site with trees dating back 800 years. Facing due east, the lodge catches the sun as it rises over the Kruger National Park. The River Lodge recently underwent a £1.1 million refurbishment and has been designed to offer the guests not only comfortable and elegant rooms but a variety of private spaces in which to relax and spend time reading or watching the Sabie river in full flow.

The rooms at River Lodge offer respite from the Lowveld heat and are decorated in tasteful neutral coloured. The bathrooms have pebble-inlaid floors, outdoor and inside shower and wooden viewing decks.

The rooms are linked to all areas by raised wooden walkways, and there is a private lounge and bar with fireplace, an outdoor safari lounge, two swimming pools (heated in winter), wooden viewing decks, a secluded bird hide, a magnificent River Island Deck built on the river, Lalamuka Health Spa & gymnasium, curio shop & both an indoor and open-air (Boma) dining area.
