Family owned and managed since 1933, Lion Sands Private Game Reserve is located along the Sabie River inside the famous Sabi Sands Game Reserve. Within the Lion Sands reserve there are four lodges: River Lodge; Ivory Lodge, Tinga Lodge and Narina Lodge, each with their own particular style. For families and private groups there are also two dedicated private villas at Ivory Lodge and Tinga Lodge.
Twice daily game drives, morning bushwalks and special sleepout experiences in treehouses are offered from all of the lodges and the guides are some of the best in the region. Game viewing potential is also fantastic from all of the lodges as the reserve and the wider, un-fenced Sabi Sands Game Reserve and Kruger National Park are home to all of the Big Five and famous for their big cat populations.
Designed to accentuate it's beautiful natural setting, Ivory Lodge is timelessly stylish and built out of all natural materials. There are eight incredibly luxurious suites here, all with their own private plunge pools and spacious decks. Throughout the property sliding glass doors and massive windows let in natural light and provide uninterrupted bush views, spacious lounges open out to large decks, and delicious bush cuisine is served in the thatched main area. There is also a spa, large boma area and African art gallery.
River Lodge is the original Lion Sands property and is built on the banks of the Sabie River with fantastic sunrise views. The lodge recently underwent a £1.1 million refurbishment and has been designed to offer a contemporary take on the traditional safari experience. There are 18 rooms in total; eight Luxury Rooms, six Superior Luxury Rooms, and four River Suites (with private plunge pools). The main area is linked via raised wooden walkways and consists of a lounge and bar with fireplace, two swimming pools, wooden viewing decks, a secluded bird hide, a spa and both an indoor and open-air dining area.
Perched among a canopy of trees and overlooking the Sabie River, Narina Lodge is a charming and peaceful haven. There are just nine suites, each decorated with chic bohemian style and equipped with a private plunge pool, deck and lounge area. The suites are reached via raised wooden walkways which are surrounded by lush green foliage and an overhanging roof of trees, and guests can often see animals grazing in the bush from here. Spa treatments are also available should a little R&R be needed in between safari adventures.
Those looking for a more traditional safari lodge should opt for Tinga Lodge, where colonial elegance and contemporary simplicity come together. Nine thatched suites overlook the Sabie River and feature private plunge pools and large decks. The suite bedrooms also open out via glass doors, to provide fantastic views from within the rooms themselves. The lodge's large main area houses an elegant open-plan lounge and dining room which is separated by a huge stone fireplace.
When staying at Lion Sands, spend a night under the African stars in one of the excusive treehouses. Super romantic and perfect for honeymooners, just make sure to book well in advance.
