Horizon Horseback Safaris have something for everyone. And at affordable prices too.
Situated in the malaria free Waterberg Mountains, the Horizon Horseback Lodges offer a fantastic variety of horse riding options. You can choose to base your self in a cosy, family ranch-style house for a week (Adventure Lodge), or combine with a bigger game safari experience in a neighbouring reserve (Safari Lodge). Everything is entirely flexible and tailored around your individual needs.
Adventure Lodge, situated on a historic family property, offers a friendly environment in which to enjoy the African bush. Set alongside a beautiful lake which currently plays host to a pod of eight hippo, Adventure Lodge is a truly wonderful and magical place for a family holiday packed full of adventure. The main ranch has three en-suite rooms or there are three thatched en-suite rondavels in the garden. It also boasts a stunning swimming pool perfect for taking a dip before an afternoon siesta. In the evening head down to the jetty for a sunset G&T.
Riding options during a typical seven night stay will include a variety of half day or full day rides into the beautiful and unspoilt landscape to see the game; cattle mustering; polo-crosse and swimming. Furthermore, feel free to leave the kids treasure hunting, pole bending and barrel racing on their ponies whilst you spend the day exploring the bush.
For those keen for a more intimate game experience, you can head to the nearby Dinaka game reserve (45 minutes away) that offers the opportunity for a truly tremendous game encounter. Experience the real thrill of cantering alongside everything from giraffe, zebra and antelope, and get as close as you dare to rhino and buffalo. The itineraries are fairly flexible with a morning ride each day, followed in the afternoon by a choice of another short ride, a game drive, guided bush walk or visit to the rhino orphanage.
The stone and thatch Safari Lodge is set high on a ridge overlooking a hippo-filled lake, with spectacular views over the rolling plains beyond.
For those looking to combine game viewing with riding in the waves, there is also the option of four days riding on the glorious Wild Coast in South Africa. As the name suggests, the coastline is wonderfully wild. Unspoilt and deserted beaches make for exhilarating gallops along the surf. You stay at comfortable coastal hotels and for those keen on a little pampering, there is also time for a spa treatment or massage en-route.
- In order for a chance to catch the Big Five, you can also combine your five nights at Safari Lodge with a four day adventure in Botswana's Tuli Block, an easy three hour road transfer.
