Our Top Five Family Destinations for 2018

Family holidays in 2018 are an entirely different ball game to what they once were 'back in my day'. For starters, you've got everything from kids clubs offering football training from Chelsea FC and the opportunity to zip-line through the trees in the tropical paradise that is the Seychelles. So, to make sure your family holidays are up to scratch, we've put together five of the hottest family destinations for 2018, which strike the all-important balance between keeping the kids entertained whist also giving you the chance to spend quality time as a family in some incredible places...

If your kids have reached the age when their phone is apparently more interesting than you, the perfect antidote is to set sail on a private catamaran cruise along the Omani coast, where they've got no choice but to spend time with you. Along the way you'll be able to see Muscat's historical sites and stop off at the Daymaniyat Islands to enjoy the fantastic diving and snorkelling on offer. Back on dry land, we can combine this with some time in the desert to go sandboarding, dune bashing and, for the young adrenaline junkies out there, canyoning trips in the Hajar Mountains.

If experiencing different cultures is high on the agenda for 2018, head to Cambodia, where we can arrange a home stay in a village near the ruins of the Banteay Chhmar temple, where you can eat with the local community and spend time learning about their way of life. To make sightseeing a little more engaging, we can organise a photo scavenger hunt around the abandoned city of Angkor Thom (which was the largest city in the world way back in the 12th Century). These unique activities, along with the other delights of Cambodia, will leave the kids with an endless supply of stories to share back at school.

Sani Dunes is the latest addition to the fantastic Sani Resort Group in Halkidiki, Greece and this new opening is ideal for those with slightly older children, welcoming those aged 12 and above. If your teens would shudder at the thought of a kids club but can't sit still for more than five minutes, the Sani Resort now features a teen clubhouse (most definitely not a kid's club) with countless activities on offer, as well as a Junior Spa, with dedicated treatments for teenagers. As if this wasn't enough, also new for 2018 is the Sani Football Academy, which offers football training in association with Chelsea FC Coaching Foundation. It doesn't get much better than that for a football fanatic (except perhaps if they're a Tottenham fan).

In March this year, a brand-spanking new hotel, the Four Seasons Desroches, is opening in the Seychelles, which just so happens to tie in with the new British Airways direct flight to Mahe, making it easier than ever to reach this tropical paradise. With babysitting services, a kids club and a dedicated teenager's area, the Four Seasons Desroches will keep all ages happy while giving mum and dad a chance to relax and perhaps read more than one page of your book without being interrupted. Or, head to Constance Ephelia hotel where you can give your kids the chance to channel their inner Tarzan and fly through the trees on the hotel's zip lining course.

Montana, USA

As family holiday destinations go, the Wild West of America will always been high on our list, with the Resort at Paws Up being a particular Original Travel favourite. In the ready-made adventure playground of the American West, you can spend your days enjoying the endless list of activities Paws Up offers, including horse riding, fishing, rafting or canoeing, and for the ultimate Western experience, stay in one of the resort's luxury tents to spend your evenings cooking s'mores around the campfire, with the iPads remaining firmly shut away in your suitcase.
