Pack the swimsuits and grab the suncream – this is family holiday mode, done right. This eight-day Lanzarote escape strikes the sweet spot between laid-back beach days and just enough adventure to keep everyone smiling.

Your journey kicks off in Macher, where you’ll set off on a guided tour through the island’s creative side, following in the footsteps of Cesar Manrique – the visionary behind much of Lanzarote’s striking look today. Then it’s time to slow things down with a couple of easy-going beach days spent dipping in and out of the ocean, stretching out on the sands and retreating for an afternoon siesta.

Next, hit the road for the short drive to San Bartolome, a traditional village with a more rural feel. From here, embark on a private tour of Timanfaya National Park, where volcanoes, geysers and steaming fumaroles show Lanzarote’s fiery side up close. Evenings are best spent sampling delicious Canarian classics – paired with sangria for the grown-ups and smoothies for the younger crowd.

And fear not, parents – this trip is designed with you in mind. With your own hire car, exploring is entirely on your terms – perfect for those spontaneous stops at viewpoints along the way. And if you need anything at all, our?on-site Concierge is just a phone call away, whether that’s recommending a restaurant for fussy eaters or tweaking your plans as you go.

Itinerary

100% customisable for you

Bags packed, snacks secured and excitement levels officially sky-high – today you and the family are off to Lanzarote. Head to the airport, whizz through security and bundle onto the plane for a four-hour flight to Arrecife. Cue the inevitable debate over the window seat as the Canary Islands’ lunar-like landscapes reveal themselves below.

When you touch down in Arrecife, pick up your hire car and buckle in for a scenic ten-minute drive south to Macher. You’ll soon arrive at your hotel, your home for the next four nights.

Once you’ve unpacked, our local Concierge will swing by to say hello and share their top island tips. They’ll also point you in the right direction when hunger strikes – think hearty dishes like papas arrugadas (Canarian potatoes served with mojo sauce), freshly grilled fish and croquetas (crispy bites with creamy filling), usually a hit with the youngsters.

Any budding art aficionados in the family? They’re in for a real treat. This morning, meet your private guide and set off to discover Lanzarote in the footsteps of Cesar Manrique, the island’s most celebrated artist, architect and environmental visionary. A proud local, Manrique helped shape modern Lanzarote while protecting its wild beauty, transforming lava fields, volcanic caves and whitewashed villages into one giant masterpiece.

Start at the Cesar Manrique Foundation, the artist’s former home, then continue to the Jameos de Agua, where he transformed a volcanic tunnel into a jaw-dropping art centre complete with refreshing pools, gardens and cave chambers. Round things off at Manrique’s house and studio, where bold colours and quirky details offer a peek into the wonderfully creative mind behind it all.

After a day spent oohing and aahing across the island, ask the youngsters what they’re craving for dinner and head straight there.

The next couple of days are all about some well-earned R&R. Drift from beach to beach, where little ones can make a beeline for the sea while parents settle into a sunlounger and bask in the oh-so glorious Canary sunshine.

Head back to your hotel for an all-important siesta when the heat peaks, then wander back out as the day cools to enjoy a paddle in the shallows, a spot of rock pooling or a competitive game of beach frisbee.

Finish each day sun-kissed, salt-speckled and satisfied with dinner and sangria by the sea, before rounding things off with a generous scoop (or two) of gelato.

Hit the road this morning for the easy, breezy 15-minute drive to San Bartolome. Roll down the windows, tune into our destination-specific playlist and let the full family sing-along commence...

Arrive in San Bartolome, a laid-back inland village known for its whitewashed houses, quiet streets and glimpses of the volcanic countryside. Hop out and herd the excitable youngsters straight into your hotel, where you’ll be staying for the next three nights. The rest of the day is yours to enjoy, whether you’re lounging poolside, working on your tan and finally cracking open that holiday read.

As the sun begins to dip, head into town for a relaxed dinner al fresco. Sample some more Canarian classics, like smoky chorizo, fresh salads and hearty stews full of island flavour – or, if it’s what the children are craving, a wood-fired pizza straight from the oven.

Lace up your walking shoes, because you’re headed into Timanfaya National Park. This morning, meet your private guide and step into the volcanic landscape, complete with jagged lava fields, rust-red craters and ash-coloured plains shaped by 18th-century eruptions.

As you explore, your guide brings the story of Montanas del Fuego to life, sharing how the island was quite literally forged by fire (much to the awe of wide-eyed youngsters). Here, the earth bubbles with steaming geysers and hissing fumaroles – the perfect opportunity to snap some prime holiday album material.

If little legs start to tire, there are plenty of dining experiences dotted along the route, where food is cooked using the island’s volcanic heat... perhaps the coolest (or should we say hottest?) dining experience ever.

Your final day is yours to enjoy. If you want to earn some seriously cool parent points, we can arrange surf lessons off the coast of Famara; otherwise, slow things right down. Soak up some rays, take a last wander and enjoy one more sunset – a fittingly relaxed end to your Lanzarote escape.

Time flies when you’re having fun – sadly, it’s time to say adios to Lanzarote. This morning, embark on the easy ten-minute drive to Arrecife Airport, return your hire car and then check in for your flight home.

You’ll spend around four hours in the air – plenty of time to flick through photos, relive the highlights and start discussing with your young explorers what’s next on their travel bucket list...

Suggestions

Everything in this itinerary is entirely customisable, down to the smallest details. Here are some more suggestions of what could be included

SURF LESSONS ON THE COAST OF FAMARA

Fancy learning how to surf? Or maybe you’ve already caught a few waves and just want to level things up a bit? Backed by sweeping dunes and the dramatic Risco cliffs, Famara Beach is the island’s go-to spot for calm waves perfect for a family surf lesson. With an expert instructor leading the way, expect plenty of laughs, wobbles and a few brilliant ‘did you see that?’ moments as everyone has a go at riding the swell. And, of course, brace yourself for one family member to nail it and spend the rest of the day acting like they’re about to go pro...
