A Green Escape to Mallorca Wild Coasts, Olive Groves and Renowned Wineries
Spain – Mallorca – Campanet – Capdepera
Begin in Campanet, a small rural town at the foot of the Serra de Tramuntana mountains, surrounded by vineyards, olive groves and fields of fruit trees. Soaking up these stunning surroundings goes hand in hand with sampling the land’s produce – fruity olive oil and organic wines are yours to enjoy between walks along picturesque pathways. We’ll also arrange a visit to Campanet’s black vulture conservation centre, dedicated to helping this misunderstood endemic bird.
Then, head to Capdepera on the island’s northeast coast. Halfway between hinterland and crystalline bays, medieval fortresses and fishing ports, this exceptional region has much to offer in the form of pristine beaches, historic sites and guided hikes through the diverse Llevant Nature Reserve. When you’re not exploring, you can sit down to a meal of freshly grilled fish or learn about the region’s traditional crafts. Pure bliss.
Itinerary
100% customisable for you
Rise and shine – your green escape to Mallorca kicks off today. Head to the airport, breeze through security and settle into the lounge before your flight. It takes just two and a half hours to reach Palma, so you’ll be there before you know it.
When you land, pick up your electric hire car and drive to Campanet, about half an hour away, at the foot of the majestic Serra de Tramuntana. You’ll spend three nights here in a charming property surrounded by old stones, pergolas and olive trees.
To unwind after your journey, enjoy a treatment at the spa or a dip in the pool before a dinner bursting with Mediterranean colours and flavours.
Today is free for you to explore Campanet at your leisure. You can stroll on the edges of cliffs, sink your toes into sandy shores, splash about on the beach, hop over creeks and wander around fruit plantations.
For a chance to interact with the locals, there’s also a host of centuries-old mills and tiny villages you can visit, all scattered among pine and oak forests teeming with wildlife. The sleepy rural town of Campanet itself is well worth exploring, best known for its caves and the passageways carved into the mountain of Sant Miquel, which are full of spectacular rock crystallisations.
Another day, another chance to discover Campanet. Nature enthusiasts can take one of the hiking trails to the S'Albufera Nature Reserve, full of birds and wildlife. Es Pla de Mallorca is another great walking option – covering the island’s centre, it’s home to olive and almond groves along with plenty of famous vineyards, such as Binissalem, where you can sample organic wines in a stunning setting.
For something a little more relaxed, simply laze on the sandy beaches tucked away in the bays of Alcudia, or wander Pollenca’s Roman ruins and charming Sunday market.
Elsewhere, for unbeatable panoramas, head to the Es Colomer viewpoint on Cape Formentor, which doubles as the starting point for mountain hikes. The Son Marroig Museum in Deia also offers stunning views and insights into the life of Archduke Ludwig Salvator of Austria. For another dose of culture, there’s the 13th-century Santuari de Lluc and its three chapels.
Today we’ll arrange for you to visit the Black Vulture Conservation Foundation. These intriguing birds are endemic to Mallorca, and the centre aims to protect, rehabilitate and release them, all while raising awareness about environmental issues.
After your visit, hop in the car to drive towards the east of the island, where you’ll spend three nights not far from the medieval village of Capdepera. The drive takes about an hour, after which you’ll find yourself in the midst of nature surrounded by olive, almond and carob trees.
When you arrive at your hotel, spend a few hours reading on the terrace, strolling through the garden or lazing by the tranquil swimming pool before indulging in a treatment at the spa.
Then, come evening, head to the restaurant to enjoy a series of creative dishes made with fresh market produce and ingredients grown on site. Time to tuck in.
Walking shoes at the ready: today is dedicated to a hike in the Llevant Nature Reserve. Travelling along paths that link pristine beaches with vine-filled valleys, hear all about the local flora and fauna from your expert guide. At the gates of the park, discover the pretty coastal village of Betlem, then weave through a string of unspoilt natural landscapes for back-to-back sea views.
Suitably hiked out, the rest of the day is free for you to kick back in Capdepera, experiencing Mallorca’s coastal beauty and medieval charms. Capdepera is best known for its basket-weaving tradition and the striking fortress perched on Puig de Capdepera.
You can also visit the Castell this afternoon, which still houses a chapel, a watchtower and the former governor's house. And, if you’re still raring to go, venture a little further afield by visiting Cala Rajada, a small fishing port turned lively resort town.
Spend your final day in Mallorca soaking up all things Capdepera, whether that means sunbathing by the turquoise waters of Cala Mesquida Beach or walking along coastal trails leading to intimate coves.
For adventures further out, the medieval town of Arta and its caves are just a short drive away, as is the prehistoric site of Ses Paisses. And, in 30 minutes, you can reach the impressive archaeological site of Son Real.
Back in Capdepera itself, you’ll find one of the most important castles in the Balearic Islands, complete with 14th-century fortifications. While you’re here, don’t forget to visit a local basket maker to learn about traditional basket weaving and the traditional palmito plant – Mallorca's only native palm tree.
Sadly, like all great adventures, your green escape to Mallorca comes to an end today. Enjoy one last breakfast overlooking the coast this morning before checking out, loading up the car and driving back to Palma Airport. Then, return your electric hire car and board your flight home.
The journey back to the UK takes just two-and-a-half hours, giving you just enough time to whip out your camera roll, reminisce over the best moments of the trip and start planning the next one (it's never too early).
