Sat atop a hill overlooking the rugged Big Sur coastline, the Ventana Inn & Spa is a luxurious adult’s only retreat set within 243 acres of forest, meadows and gardens.
Luxurious guestrooms, suites, villas and cottages are housed within natural weathered cedar buildings, with panoramic windows to take full advantage of this back-to-nature setting, and the California coastal views. Guestrooms features sumptuous king beds, luxurious bathrooms, and private decks from which to enjoy a morning coffee, or while away hours with noses buried in books. Winter travellers should opt for a Fireplace room, complete with wood-burning fireplace for cosy log cabin evenings. Some guestrooms and suites offer Pacific Ocean views, large soaking bathtubs or hot tubs, and even deck-based hammocks for the ultimate chill out retreat.
The Restaurant at Ventana is one of the finest dining spots in Big Sur, serving a menu of creative dishes using locally sourced, and sustainably grown ingredients under the control of Executive Chef Paul Corsentino, accompanied by an award winning wine list. It's so popular in fact, that reservations are even recommended for in-house guests.
For relaxation, retreat to the spa to unplug from modern day life and unwind. Treatments are available at the spa, in the privacy of guest's accommodation, or al fresco on guests private decking. There are two outdoor swimming pools at Ventana - one clothing optional - Japanese hot baths and complimentary daily yoga, Tai Chi or Pilates classes to ensure guests find their state of Zen during their stay.
The hotel host daily 'discovery walks', where guests can join guide Greg in exploring the surrounding landscape, keeping eyes peeled for California Condors, and mountain lion tracks. Blue and Humpback whales can also be spotted off of the Cali coast seasonally, so it pays to peel yourself away from the hammock, and explore the coastal tracks.
Why we love it
Afternoon wine and cheese receptions are held daily, hammocks are strung about the resort, and there is a general unhurried pace of life, which makes this one of our top California retreats.
