The Clift is in the centre of San Francisco, just a stones throw from Union Square, and combines old-school elegance with a distinctly modern touch.
The entrance to the Clift hotel speaks for itself, with the classic stone exterior opening onto a glowing purple entrance, leading into the contemporary lobby designed by Philippe Starck. The lobby contains museum-worthy pieces, such as a coffee table by Salvador Dali and a surreal stool by Renee Marguerite.
The design theme continues in the bedrooms, with sleigh shaped beds and Man-Ray décor in all of the rooms.
The hotel has a fitness centre, a restaurant, and very cool bar - the London club style Living room - although as the hotel is so close to the action in the city you might not hang around here for more than a quick cocktail.
Why we love it
If first impressions are anything to go by, the Clift is pretty memorable. The lobby features an eclectic collection of furniture and a massive fireplace featuring a chimney sculpted in bronze by Gerard Garouste.
