From the glitzy shores of Florida’s Atlantic Coast to the serene turquoise panoramas of the Caribbean, this nine-day trip is all about experiencing two different coastal getaways in one. Your first stop is Miami, a chic cosmopolitan city known for its long sandy beaches, upscale Design District and timelessly trendy feel. After a few days of city fun, catch a short flight to Harbour Island in the Bahamas archipelago, where it’s all about coastal relaxation, sunset beach strolls and a sit down with a local Bahamian family to learn more about their culture. This is a great opportunity to relax, rejuvenate and admire the delightfully over-saturated colours of this island paradise: the electric turquoise blue of the water, the rose pink of the sand, the vibrant red of hibiscus plants and the emerald green of the palm trees.

Route

Everything is 100% tailored to you
DAY 1

HELLO FLORIDA

Your coastal getaway to the sandy shores of Florida and the Bahamas starts today with a ten-hour flight to Miami. A private driver will be waiting for you on arrival to whisk you off to your first accommodation: a stylish hotel in the glamorous beach-fronted neighbourhood of South Beach, where you’ll be staying for the next three nights. You’ll arrive in the late afternoon, so once you’ve settled in and freshened up, we recommend celebrating the first night of your holiday with a beach stroll followed by a glass of bubbly in one of South Beach’s many glitzy bars.

DAY 2

MIAMI LIKE A LOCAL

Rise and shine for your first full day in Miami; there’s not a moment to waste. Boasting immense beaches, lively neighbourhoods and top-notch cultural offerings, there’s plenty to keep you busy in the ‘Magic City’. After breakfast this morning you’ll be met by a clued-up local guide, who’ll be taking you on walk through some of the city’s can’t-miss cultural enclaves, including South Beach, with its Art Deco architecture; the ultra-chic Design District; and Wynwood, which is known for its vibrant street art scene. This walk is a great way to see the city through the lens of a local and learn more about life in Miami – its history, politics, arts, food scene, culture… whatever comes to mind!

DAY 3

ART AND ARCHITECTURE

Today is yours to spend further discovering the delights of Miami at your own leisure. You can continue admiring the many Art Deco constructions that line the pristine streets of the city; visit the historic Moore building in the Design District, which features a monumental installation by Zaha Hadid; stroll through Miami City Cemetery, the city's first cemetery; enjoy a game of chess or dominoes in Maximo Gomez Park; or simply kick back and relax with a good book on the soft sand of South Beach. We could also arrange for you to head out for an airboat safari in Everglades National Park or a boat ride around the luxurious artificial islands of Biscayne Bay.

DAY 4

BUGGY AROUND HARBOUR ISLAND

Wave goodbye to the long beaches of Miami as you make your way to the delicate stretches of pink sand that line the paradisal Bahamas. After breakfast, head to the airport to catch a speedy one-hour flight to North Eleuthera. From here you can catch a taxi to the pier followed by a 15-minute boat ride to Harbour Island. We promise the multi-stage journey will all be worth it when you arrive in your next accommodation: a luxurious colonial-style hotel located on a small promontory overlooking a superb pink-sand beach where you’ll be hanging up your hat for the next four nights. Once you’ve made yourself at home, head down to reception to collect your electric buggy and head out for an afternoon of beach-hopping around the island.

DAY 5

DISCOVER THE COLONIAL BEAUTY OF DUNMORE

Today is yours to spend soaking in the cultural offerings of Harbour Island and the nearby colonial town of Dunmore. Once the capital of the Bahamas, Dunmore Town is home to a collection of pristine and picturesque Victorian houses which line the flower-filled streets. You could also don your finest clothes for mass at one of the island’s many welcoming churches. When you’re ready for a dose of adventure, turn your nose to the ocean for offshore snorkelling, kayaking, windsurfing, fishing, boating and beach horse riding. You could also simply spend today resting under the shade of a palm tree, soaking in the beauty of your magical surroundings and watching the fishermen pull up to the beach with their ultra-fresh catch.

DAYS 6 & 7

ISLAND LIFE

Your final two days here are all about rejuvenating in paradise and savouring the delights of island life. Spend your days moving between the pool and the ocean, before enjoying one too many Bahama Mama cocktails at the charming beach bars in the evenings. At some point over the next two days, you’ll also have the opportunity to take part in the People-to-People programme, which pairs up travellers with local families as a way of exchanging cultures and traditions.

DAYS 8 & 9

JOURNEY HOME

Sadly, the time has come to bid a fond farewell to the beautiful coastal landscapes of the Bahamas and embark on the journey home. After one last relaxing morning at the beach, head back to North Eleuthera and then Miami airport. Here you can escape the crowds and enjoy some down time in the airport lounge as you await the departure of your nine-hour flight back to the UK. Most direct flights depart in the late afternoon, so you’ll spend tonight onboard and arrive home tomorrow morning. If, however you’re not quite ready to leave paradise, our team will be happy to arrange for you to extend your holiday with a few days on another Bahamian island.

A la carte

AIRBOAT SAFARI IN EVERGLADES NATIONAL PARK

Home to exceptionally diverse wildlife, including alligators, manatees and flamingos, the wild nature reserve of Everglades National Park is nirvana for outdoorsy folk. Set off from Miami Beach and make your way to the park with a friendly local guide. When you arrive, step aboard a small hydrofoil boat for a wildlife-watching adventure through the enchanting marshes and wetlands that make up the Everglades.

BOAT RIDE IN BYSCANE BAY

Stretching for over 30 miles between Miami and Miami Beach, the beautiful Biscayne Bay lagoon is home to a collection of luxurious artificial islands, many of which house impressive celebrity villas. You’ll depart from North Beach, first admiring the Blue and Green Diamond Towers and the historic Fontainebleau Hotel before taking a refreshing dip in the turquoise waters of the lagoon.

WITH A FEW MORE DAYS… DISCOVER MORE OF THE BAHAMAS

With nearly 700 islands and cays (only 30 of which are inhabited), the Bahamas has plenty to offer. Our favourite spots include Nassau, Andros and Cat Island, all of which display a different side to this charming Caribbean archipelago. Behind the commercial hustle and bustle and the comings and goings of cruise ships lies the beautiful city of Nassau, which charms visitors with its blend of contemporary and colonial architecture. Far from its past as the capital of piracy, Nassau is now peaceful by day and a delightfully lively city by night. Then there’s Andros, a tranquil and isolated island which is home to dreamy beaches and well-preserved reefs teeming with marine life. Here, you can easily lose track of time while fishing, sailing, kayaking, snorkelling and tucking into delicious seafood dishes. You can also visit the world’s third-largest coral island and its unique network of caves and blue holes. And finally, if you’re looking for a slice of utter peace and quiet in the Bahamas, then tiny Cat Island is the place for you. Think: deserted beaches, forested hills and the towering Mount Alvernia.
