Not to be missed when visiting Fiordland is a trip to majestic Milford Sound, one of New Zealand's most spectacular areas. Marvel at Mitre Peak, one of the most photographed peaks in the country, and go hiking along the Milford Track, a 30-mile, four-day trek that takes in some of New Zealand's finest scenery (which is saying something). A scenic buffet of mountain passes, river valleys, ancient forests and dramatic waterfalls, you'll almost certainly leave with your fill of beauty.
Another area well worth a visit is Doubtful Sound a wonderful wilderness of rugged peaks, vivid green rainforest and twisting, hidden inlets. Known for its pristine beauty and diverse wildlife, you can expect to see bottlenose dolphins and fur seals and hopefully catch a glimpse of the rare Fiordland Crested Penguin. All this dramatic flora and fauna can be enjoyed from the air by helicopter and fixed-wing flight, from the water on your own private boat cruise, or simply on foot to give you a real feeling for the sheer size of this magnificent terrain.
