Why do you love Norway so much?

You can’t beat the combination of dramatic landscapes and understated luxury experiences. I also love that the country has scrapped star ratings at hotels, shifting the focus to where you are staying rather than simply the services being offered. What’s more, Norwegians by nature are very hospitable so everywhere you go you’re sure to be met with a warm welcome.

What’s been your most memorable experience in Norway?

Organising a private fjord cruise for a multi-generational family, followed by a helicopter flight over the mountains and a surprise picnic overlooking Sognefjord (the country’s longest and deepest fjord).

What would be your top recommendation for someone visiting Norway for the first time?

Take your time travelling between destinations. In Norway it really is as much about the journey as the destination and there are lots of beautiful viewpoints (and maybe a glacier or two) along the way.

What’s your insider tip?

Make the most of your local Concierge. They can recommend lesser-known viewpoints, remote floating saunas and newly opened restaurants you won’t find online. Another top tip is to pack layers and don’t trust the forecast. The weather can change quickly, with glorious sunshine one minute and rain the next.

What’s been your best foodie experience in Norway?

Dining on the catch of the day at Cornelius Restaurant. It’s located just offshore of Bergen and is only accessible by boat. If you’re lucky, you’ll be picked up by the owner who can chat to you about the history of the restauant and the local area.

What’s the one local dish you have to try while in Norway?

Fresh seafood sourced directly from the surrounding fjords.

What’s one place in Norway you could go back to again and again?

The Sognefjord region. It’s home to the country’s longest and deepest fjord (nicknamed the ‘King of the Fjords’) and the scenery here changes dramatically with the seasons. Instead of visiting Flam, which most people flock to, I’d recommend Aurland instead. It’s just ten minutes down the road but is much quieter and, in my opinion, much more scenic. Depending on the time of year, I’d recommend riding the ferry from Bergen so you can admire the scenery from the water.

Is there somewhere you haven’t had a chance to visit yet?

There are still northern Arctic regions I’d love to explore further and possibly try my luck at seeing the Northern Lights. I’d also love to learn more about the Sami culture and see huskies and reindeer. There is something quite appealing to me about the short days (in the mid winter there are only five hours of daylight) and being snuggled up in your hotel surrounded by falling snow.

Is Norway somewhere to go as a couple or with family?

It’s ideal for both – particularly for milestone celebrations or multi-generational trips.
