For wildlife enthusiasts and beach lovers, it doesn't get better than this 13-day trip. You’ll be staying in not one, but two of Kenya's most incredible conservancies, each teeming with big game, followed by four glorious days on the white sand beaches beside the Indian Ocean.

Your animal-focused adventure begins in Laikipia’s Lewa Wildlife Conservancy, where you’ll have the chance to spot endangered Grevy’s zebras and black and white rhinos alongside over 70 other mammal species. Spend your days on walking safaris alongside an expert guide and try your hand at camel riding with local Samburu warrior handlers before relaxing with sundowners and sunset dinners. Next up is the Mara North Conservancy, home to majestic lions, elegant giraffes and, if you’re visiting between July and October, the annual wildebeest migration. Finally, head to the Kenyan Coast for some well-deserved relaxation, along with windsurfing, waterskiing and kite surfing. One thing’s for sure – you’ll return home with a mountain of memories (and a camera roll full of photos).

Itinerary

100% customisable for you

Passports at the ready: your classic Kenya holiday begins today. After speeding through security and enjoying some nibbles in the airport lounge, board your direct daytime flight to Nairobi, which takes just under nine hours.

Touch down in Kenya late this evening, where you’ll be met and transferred to the airport hotel. Flop into bed for a good night’s sleep, ready for the real excitement to begin tomorrow.

After a restful night, board a one-and-a-half-hour flight from the domestic airport to the Lewa Wildlife Conservancy in Laikipia. Once you land, you'll be collected by your camp guide and driven to your charming safari lodge.

After you’ve settled in, it’s time to embark on your first game drive, guided by one of the camp's local experts. Scan the grasslands for the 'Northern Five': gerenuks, beisa oryx, reticulated giraffes, Somali ostriches and, of course, Grevy's zebras. These endangered zebras have been carefully nurtured thanks to conservation efforts by the local community and now thrive alongside the 70 other species of mammals that inhabit the conservancy.

If you're an experienced rider, join the camp's evening horse ride; or, if you fancy something different, try your hand at camel riding with some local Samburu warrior handlers.

Come evening, toast to the day’s adventures with a sundowner cocktail before heading back to the lodge for a mouthwatering dinner.

Wake to the sound of birdsong and get ready for this morning's adventure: a walking safari, accompanied by your knowledgeable guide. Watch the animals up close as you wander through the grasslands, from scampering warthogs and wild dogs to mighty elephants and elegant giraffes. Your guide will keep a careful watch, pointing out tracks and other signs of animal activity as you walk.

On your return to camp, enjoy a freshly prepared breakfast in the dining tent or out on the veranda.

After a few hours relaxing by the pool, it's time to head out for an afternoon game drive. Keep your eyes peeled for lions, cheetahs and leopards, and when the sun starts to set, pause for the ever-welcome sundowner in a spot chosen for its picture-worthy view.

After another thrilling outing, drive back to camp for a delicious dinner beneath the stars.

Mornings on safari are particularly memorable, so rise bright and early to miss none of the animal action. First on the game drive agenda is a fabulous bush breakfast with a view: your guide will drive to a special spot and set out tables, chairs and a tasty selection of breakfast treats.

If you don’t fancy that, why not visit the Ngare Ndare Forest for a change of scenery? After enjoying a dip in the river or a stroll along the canopy walkway, return to camp for a wonderful final supper with your fellow guests.

This morning, squeeze in one final game drive before catching a two-hour flight to the Mara North Conservancy. This exclusive 74,000-acre area has tightly controlled visitor numbers and strict etiquette for game viewing, all designed to preserve the animals’ habitat.

On the way from the airstrip to your new camp, look out of your window to get a feel for the different landscape. The wildlife population here is superb, with some prides of lions even featuring in the BBC’s?Big Cat Diary; your experienced guides will share their expert knowledge as you explore the plains.

With such wonderful wildlife on your doorstep, focus on making the most of your time in the bush. There are no restrictions on timings, so game drives can take place throughout the day, as well as late into the evening.

Today, head out on an evening game drive before returning to camp for a star-lit supper and a nightcap around the fire.

Another day, another drive. This morning, look out for buffalo, hyenas, giraffes and elephants, all which thrive in the Mara thanks to valiant conservation efforts. The highly experienced guides here grew up in the area, so they're keen to share their favourite spots with guests.

In the afternoon, take a trip to a nearby village to meet some of the local Maasai people or visit the local school to speak to friendly children and teachers.

If you’re not too tired this evening, head out on another game drive to check out the pride of lions that have made this patch their home, as well as the dozens of species of small mammals and birds. Once back at the camp, the head chef will have prepared a delightful three-course meal to round off a perfect day.

This morning, swap the 4x4 for your hiking boots and head out on a walking safari with an expert guide. As you wander through the bush, learn more about the flora and fauna of this area, as well as further training in the art of tracking. You may also come across bigger game up close – unlike in the main Maasai Mara, cattle are allowed to graze freely here, so the grass tends to be shorter and better for spotting wildlife.

Back at camp, relax over a leisurely lunch before hopping in a 4x4 for one last evening game drive (and sundowner, of course) to salute the conservancy's resident animals.

The chef will have crafted another excellent meal for your final night here, so enjoy drinks and chats around the fire before getting a restful night's sleep.

After an early morning game drive and a hearty breakfast back at camp, you'll be transferred to the Mara North airstrip for the one-and-a-half-hour flight back to Nairobi. From here, board a second short flight to Lamu on Kenya’s north coast, which takes about an hour.

Once you touch down, you'll be greeted at the airport and transferred to a jetty for a 20-minute journey across the water to your idyllic beach retreat, complete with white sand beaches and charming waterfront accommodation. Make yourself at home, as it’s time for the coastal part of your Kenyan getaway to begin – let the relaxation commence...

The next three days are yours for the taking. This is an opportunity to truly relax and recharge your batteries, so spend lazy days ambling along the tropical beach or dozing in your hammock. Since you’re by the sea, enjoy an afternoon snorkelling or challenge yourself to waterskiing, windsurfing and kite surfing.

While you’re on the water, try your hand at deep-sea fishing, one of the most popular activities here thanks to the coast’s bountiful waters. You could also hop on a boat and explore the historic town of Lamu, a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the oldest towns in the country.

There are plenty of excursions on dry land, too. Still got safaris on your mind? Head into the dry scrubland to see Lamu’s myriad birds and mammals.

Back at your hotel, the chefs take immense pride in rustling up tasty cuisine using local ingredients, from succulent seafood to freshly picked fruits and vegetables.

Sadly, it’s time for your classic Kenya trip to come to an end. After a final relaxing morning and hearty breakfast on the island, you'll be taken by boat to board your one-hour flight back to Nairobi.

Once you touch down in Nairobi, check in for your direct, overnight flight home, which takes just under nine hours. You'll arrive back in the UK early the next morning, ready to regale your friends and family with tales of your Kenyan safari and coast adventure.
