Holmen Husky Lodge is a rustic Tipi lodge offering dog-sledding excursions close to the arctic town of Alta, Northern Norway. Built in a converted barn, the lodge first opened its doors in 1996 when dog-sledding and husky fanatic Eirik Nilsen decided to share his passion with the world.
The Tipi bungalows feature double beds (with comforters and heated blankets), a wood-burning stove and floor to ceiling windows keeping you as close to nature as possible, whilst the showers and toilets are situated in a new separate building just a short walk away.
After a day out on the sleds you'll want nothing more than to return to a cosy lodge to dine on warming cuisine and, lucky for you, that's just what Holmen's provides. Enjoy delicious home cooked meals ranging from hearty grilled meats to delicate soups, each made with local ingredients.
In the winter guests can enjoy dog sledding adventures that range in length from two hour trips to six day expeditions whilst in the summer guests can expect to meet the seasons ever-so excitable puppies and take guided walks through the surrounding forests. After, return to the lodge's ultra-cosy sitting room and relax in front of the large windows overlooking the forest and await the northern lights.
Why we love it
Keep your eyes peeled and, if you're lucky, you might see a moose pass by the lounge windows and disappear into the forest.
