Family Holidays in the Snow

Skiing is one of the great family activities, but there's so much more to do in the snow, from staying in ice hotels to dog sledding.

Together with Sharky & George we have selected our favourite family holiday snow destinations. From the ski slopes to Austria to meeting Father Christmas you are sure to have a brrrr-iliant time!

While we may get the odd snowy day every other winter, we are very rarely blessed with enough snow to transform into snowmen or go tobogganing, and even when we are, it's often very short lived, and is combined with the utter chaos that comes with British people trying to deal with the adverse weather conditions. So why not give your children the ultimate snow experience (chaos hopefully not included) and whisk them off to Swedish Lapland, where you and the children can go dogsledding with teams of adorable huskies through snow-clad forests; go snowmobiling; meet reindeer and stay overnight in an igloo or treehouse hotel.

Another of our favourite family holidays in the snow has to be the unmissable childhood experience of meeting Father Christmas, and Finland has corned the market in winter Father Christmas holidays. While some of the experiences out there may be a little mass market; we know how to do the whole thing so privately and so perfectly that we even had one eight-year-old 'non-believer' come back converted. We can even arrange to send the children's letters and presents in advance and have an elf come to your door to hand deliver your invitation to Lapland.

When talking about holidays in the snow, we can't help but mention skiing, as we think that it could just be the perfect family holiday, and let us explain why: there's the combination of fresh mountain air and constant exercise that means there's almost no chance of hearing the dreaded words 'I'm bored' throughout the trip. This also means the kids are likely to sleep like logs the second their heads hit the pillow, so you can get some time to yourselves in the evening. And this all happens in the beauty of snow-capped mountains and (hopefully) bright blue skies. What's not to love?
