Located on the banks of the Waikato River in 17 acres of parkland, Huka Lodge is the last word in luxury.
Guests can choose to stay in one of 18 junior suites or two secluded cottages, all of which are spacious and light. The cottages boast under floor heating in the bathrooms, views of the river and gardens, and a study area with computer, television and DVD player. Inspiration for the interiors has come from New Zealand culture and the Arts and Crafts movement.
Private chefs can whip up delicious meals in the cottage kitchens, or alternatively, meals can be taken in the Main Lodge. There are also over 20 indoor and outdoor private dining facilities, such as the library or the orchard.
In the park grounds a heated swimming pool, tennis court, petanique and croquet courts and spa pools meld into the peaceful surroundings.
Activities on offer are numerous: take a scenic helicopter flight over the volcanic landscape; experience traditional Maori culture with a descendent of the high chief of the local tribe; go hunting, fishing or hiking around the lake and mountains, or take in a round of golf. More adrenalin fuelled activities are also easily organised, from white water rafting to bungy jumping to parasailing. And after all that, enjoy a relaxing spa or beauty treatment at the Main Lodge.
Why we love it
Huka Lodge has been established as an iconic fishing retreat since the 1920s, and is regarded as a true home from home.
