Somalisa Camp is an authentic bush camp hidden away on an acacia island overlooking the ancient seasonal flood plain of the famous Kennedy Vlei line.
There are just six elegantly furnished canvas tents at Somalisa Camp, all with en-suite bathrooms, flush loos and romantic al fresco bush showers. The décor is a blend of colonial furnishings and ancient tribal ornaments.
The main living area and pool are designed with relaxation in mind, whether that be with a cup of tea in hand or a refreshing cocktail, and the main deck overlooks a pan where herds of game congregate. The lounge and dining area is at the forefront of the camp, tucked under a soaring canopy of trees, and meals are inspired by the Far East, Europe and Africa, featuring new and seasonal flavours complemented by a choice of South African and Australian wines. The use of solar lighting ensures comfort without the accompanying detriment to the local environment.
Activities on offer include guided walks lead by qualified and passionate guides who share their knowledge and love of the bush; game drives and nightly spot-lighting as well as game viewing from hides. Species to see include kudu and sable antelope, zebra, wildebeest, gemsbok, the rare and endangered roan antelope, buffalo, giraffe, white rhino, lion, leopard, hyena, and many other. Hwange National Park is also known locally as 'the land of the giants' for its vast elephant herds.
