Inspiration for your own tailor-made trip
Namibia – Zimbabwe – Botswana – Windhoek – Omaruru – Swakopmund – Sesriem – Victoria Falls – Khwai
100% customisable for you
The ‘I do’s’ have been said and the bags are packed: your love-laced honeymoon to Africa begins today. Head to the airport, breeze through security and settle into the lounge for a celebratory tipple before boarding – the first of many just-married cheers.
It’s a 14-hour overnight flight to Windhoek, Namibia, with a quick stop in Johannesburg along the way, so snuggle up in your seats and try to catch some Z’s before touchdown.
When you arrive the next morning, you’ll be whisked away by private transfer to your charming guesthouse for the night.
Keen to unwind after all that travelling? Bask in the oh-so glorious Namibian sunshine (with a few intermittent dips in the pool). This evening, treat your tastebuds to some kapana – smoky, flame-grilled beef – before crawling into bed for an early night. Tomorrow promises plenty more excitement.
Rise and shine early this morning to beat the jet lag, then pick up the keys to your 4x4 hire car and set off on the two-and-a-half-hour drive to Omaruru. Be warned: if your spouse suddenly starts excitedly pointing out of the window, there’s a good chance they’ve just clocked their first animal sighting amid the sun-scorched landscape.
When you arrive, check in for one night at your cosy lodge and feast on some hearty Namibian cuisine for lunch.
Later, meet your local guide and venture into the Erongo Mountains, forged by an ancient volcano millions of years ago. As the sun sets, pause and watch the weird and wonderful rock formations shift through a spectrum of fiery colours beneath the fading desert sky. Then, don your binoculars – this is a hotspot for Namibia’s most iconic wildlife, which may include elephants, cheetahs and zebras roaming the plains below.
Start your day the Namibian way with some vetkoek (golden fried dough stuffed with sweet or savoury fillings), then hit the road for the three-hour drive west to Swakopmund. When the sparkling Atlantic finally appears on the horizon, you’ll know you’re almost there.
When you arrive, check into an oceanfront guesthouse – your peaceful retreat for the next two nights. Drop your bags, lather on the sunscreen and make a beeline for the beach, taking your pick between a sun-drenched lounger or a palm-shaded patch of sand – perhaps with a cocktail to celebrate your arrival?
This evening, bypass any dinner deliberations with a restaurant recommendation from our local Concierge – they'll know just the spot for a romantic candlelit evening.
Hoping to curate the ultimate honeymoon photo album? Sandwich Harbour has you covered. This morning, meet your local guide and venture out to this coastal wonder, where rolling desert dunes meet the azure waters of the Atlantic.
Climb up to one of the site’s crests for jaw-dropping views, then keep your eyes peeled (and camera poised) for pink flamingos, bumbling pelicans and cormorants drying their wings in the sunshine.
Back in Swakopmund this afternoon, amble around the charming streets, adorned with German colonial-era facades. If your other half fancies themselves an architecture aficionado, they’ll be in their element admiring the striking Lutheran Church, the former Art Nouveau military hospital and the ornate Hohenzollernhaus – an old hotel crowned with elegant turrets.
Seafood fiends are in for a real treat in Swakopmund. For dinner, seek out a local shellfish spot – you’ll quickly discover why this city has earned such a stellar reputation for its oysters.
Gear up this morning for the four-and-a-half-hour drive to Sesriem, set in the heart of the Namib Desert. Roll down the windows, tune into our destination-specific playlist and let the singalong commence as lunar-like scenery stretches to the horizon.
When you arrive, check into your charming chalet, where you’ll be staying for the next two nights. You’ll be located slap-bang in the middle of a private reserve, which can only mean one thing – ticking even more wildlife off your Namibian bingo card.
Fancy taking your honeymoon to new heights? We can also arrange a sunrise hot air balloon ride over the Namib Desert.
Today is all yours to discover the magic of Namib-Naukluft National Park, one of the largest reserves in Africa.
Follow the road through the arid desert and put your wildlife-spotting skills to the test, scouring the plains for oryx, whose sandy coats make them masters of camouflage.
Then, scan the desert floor for the small but mighty Stenocara gracilipes beetle, which has evolved to beat the drought by harvesting tiny droplets of moisture from the morning fog. The acacia trees are just as resourceful, with roots stretching dozens of feet underground in search of precious water.
Next, point the bonnet towards the park’s famous Sossusvlei sector, where dizzying sand dunes frame a vast clay pan. It all looks every bit the film set, quite literally – parts of Dune were shot in the Namib Desert.
After a day of oohing and aahing your way around the park, settle in for an aromatic pot of potjiekos (a slow-cooked stew) back at the hotel this evening.
Another day, another adventure. Sink your teeth into a traditional Namibian breakfast this morning, then buckle in for the four-and-a-half-hour drive back to Windhoek. And, because every great road trip deserves a pit stop, pull in at a roadside café for a cup of locally grown coffee backdropped by the Namib Desert.
When you arrive in the capital, drop off your trusty hire car and make your way to your hotel for the night.
After a week of jam-packed days, dusty roads and desert discoveries, it’s time to slow the pace. While away the hours swinging in a shaded hammock, making a dent in your holiday reads and cooling off with some refreshing dips in the pool. Then, take R&R to new heights and book in for a couples massage. We’d call that honeymooning done right.
This morning, you’ll be transferred to Windhoek Airport for the one-and-a-half-hour flight to Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe. When you touch down, meet your driver for the private transfer to your peaceful guesthouse.
Apply a generous spritz of mozzie spray, then follow one of the nearby nature trails to Victoria Falls – one of Africa’s most incredible natural spectacles.
Hike between the Main Falls, Horseshoe Falls and Rainbow Falls, before arriving at the showstopper: the Devil’s Cataract, a colossal wall of crashing water and swirling mist. This cascading spray doesn’t just make for pretty pictures, either – it nourishes a pocket of lush rainforest, where afzelia trees and wild date palms thrive all year round.
If this bucket-list beauty’s left you raring for more, we can also arrange a helicopter flight over the falls or a sunset cruise along the Zambezi River.
Come dinnertime, follow the irresistible aromas into town and discover what’s cooking in Zimbabwe.
After a whirlwind stop, bid a fond farewell to Zimbabwe and meet your local driver for the one-hour journey across the border to Kasane in Botswana. From here, board a 45-minute air taxi to the Khwai region of the Okavango Delta, gazing out of the window at the sprawling plains below.
When you arrive, check in to your bush camp on the edge of the Moremi Reserve, your home away from home for the next two nights. And with a busy waterhole right in front of your lodgings, you won’t have to go far for animal sightings – they regularly stop by to quench their thirst and seek relief from the midday heat.
As dusk settles, gather around the crackling fire for a traditional bush braai, complete with well-deserved sundowners and flame-grilled fare. Between bites, your rangers will also fill you in on what tomorrow’s safari has in store...
Forget the alarm clock this morning. As dawn breaks, the bush erupts with a chorus of birdsong and distant hoots.
Wolf down breakfast, then bundle into a 4x4 for a morning game drive. This reserve is home to (deep breath) lions, leopards, cheetahs, elephants, wildebeest, zebras, monkeys and an abundance of bird species, so keep score of how many sightings you can tick off before lunch.
Bounce along the dusty tracks to the Okavango Delta, where a mokoro canoe will carry you along its winding waterways. Here, the stars of the show are undoubtedly the Nile crocodiles, which can reach a jaw-dropping 15ft long. If you can tear your eyes away, scan the channels for hippos wallowing among the reeds.
As darkness descends, embark on a nighttime game drive and experience Botswana in a whole new light (or rather, hardly any light at all). Jackals prowl through the bush, hyenas cackle in the distance and creepy crawlies emerge from their hidden nooks.
Time flies when you’re having fun and, sadly, your African honeymoon has come to an end.
After one last Botswanan breakfast, board your taxi plane to Maun Airport, where you’ll connect onto your one-and-a-half-hour flight to Johannesburg. Here, have a mooch around duty-free (and perhaps pick up a surprise gift for your new spouse) before boarding the overnight flight back to the UK.
All in all, you’ll spend around 14 hours in the air – plenty of time to flick through your photos, relive the highlights and start dreaming up your next big adventure together...
