Inspiration for your own tailor-made trip
Namibia – Windhoek – Spitzkoppe – Twyfelfontein – the Namib Desert – Grootberg – Omaruru – Damaraland
100% customisable for you
Bags at the ready – your Reconnect retreat in Namibia starts today. Head to the airport, whizz through security and settle into the lounge for some peace and quiet before takeoff. Your flight to Windhoek is overnight and connects via Johannesburg, meaning you’ll spend a total of 13 hours in the air.
Touchdown in Windhoek the following morning, where you’ll be met by a private driver and transferred to your hotel in the city centre. After pausing to unpack and unwind, meet another private driver (lucky you) and hit the road once more.
Spend the afternoon at a traditional farm, where you can tuck into a late lunch prepared entirely from farm-fresh ingredients. Once you’re suitably stuffed, enjoy a private tour led by a friendly local and a chat with some of the workers, who’ll fill you in on their daily lives.
Keep the good food coming this evening by contacting your trusty Concierge for some stellar restaurant recommendations. Then, indulge in a decadent digestif before retiring to your room to recharge for the adventures of tomorrow...
After a tasty breakfast this morning, set off on a private tour of Windhoek with a local guide. Start at the railway station, a magnificent Cape Dutch-style transport hub built in 1912, then head to the Kudu Statue, a symbol of hope and national pride in the charming shape of an antelope.
Next, delve further into local culture with visits to the National Theatre, the Parliament Building (home to some gorgeous gardens) and the National Museum of Namibia. Art lovers can also dip into the Owela National Gallery – cue a chorus of oohs and ahhs.
This afternoon, collect your hire car and hit the road to Spitzkoppe, a three-hour drive away. It’s time to dial up the road trip tunes and indulge in the arid awe of the Namib Desert.
When you arrive, check in for one night and refuel with a hearty meal overlooking the striking granite peaks scattered across the plains.
Road trip snacks at the ready, it’s time to embark on the three-hour-and-30-minute drive to Twyfelfontein, also known as ‘/Ui-//aes’ (but no one’s expecting you to pronounce that). One of the most important archaeological sites in southern Africa, Twyfelfontien is the largest single grouping of ancient engravings in the region – no wonder it boasts UNESCO World Heritage status.
When you arrive, drop your bags, freshen up and scope out your suave new digs before sitting down to a mouth-watering meal this evening. Potjekos (slow-cooked venison stew), anyone?
Over the next few days, you’ll be fully immersed in the delightful drama of Damaraland. Between breaks to bask in the landscape, venture out with expert local guides on walking safaris and game drives, searching for springbok, oryx and zebra. Budding birdwatchers should also keep an eye out for the bird species populating these plains, including Ruppell’s korhaan and Benguela long-billed larks.
Each evening, kick back at camp, crack open a holiday read and sip on a cocktail under the stars. Let the reconnection with nature commence...
Hop in the car this morning to begin the roughly three-hour-and-30-minute drive to Grootberg, where you’ll settle in for the next three nights at another seriously sumptuous camp. While you’re on the road, why not play a game of I-Spy with the wildlife roaming in the distance?
When you arrive, check in and shake off any long-car-journey stiffness with a relaxing evening spent wining, dining and reclining in the golden glow of another Namibian sunset.
Today, the early bird catches the worm (or should we say spots the rhino?). After breakfast, set off with an expert guide to track desert-adapted black rhinos – remarkable creatures that have evolved to survive in extreme temperatures ranging from sub-zero to above 40°C.
Set out in a 4x4 before switching tack and continuing on foot, following the trail of these hardy animals through the stony plains. Along the way, your guide will explain the rhino’s behaviour, teach you how to identify their tracks and allow plenty of time for you to take that iconic wildlife photo – cameras at the ready.
This evening, return to camp and unwind with a delicious dinner, followed by a couple more sundowners (it would be rude not to) before hitting the hay.
Another day, another desert-adapted animal to track. After sunrise, meet an expert guide and head out in the hopes of spotting desert-adapted elephants. Equally well-adjusted to their arid surroundings, these majestic mammals have evolved to tackle distances of more than 40 miles a day in search of food and water. Now that’s a feat of endurance.
Hop in a 4x4 and drive into the desert, keeping your eyes peeled for the slightly smaller residents, too – we're talking about zebra and oryx, of course. There will also be plenty more of yesterday’s black rhinos roaming the plains today, along with a classic safari staple: giraffes.
When you return to camp this evening, put grumbling stomachs to rest with another delicious dinner and a rejuvenating evening on the terrace. It doesn’t come much better than this.
After breakfast this morning, strap in for the four-and-a-half-hour drive to the town of Omaruru, in the beautiful Erongo Mountain region. In need of a refresh on your road trip tunes? Check out our destination-specific playlist and let the hours breeze by.
Pull up to your next camp this afternoon, where you’ll check in for a two-night stay in a seriously scenic spot. Then, drop your bags and refuel with a late lunch on the terrace.
This incredible landscape waits for no one, so once you’ve filled your stomachs, head out to explore the Erongo Mountains on foot. One of the largest private nature reserves in Namibia, these glorious granite rocks are steeped in history, having been part of a 130-million-year-old volcanic crater.
Back at camp, tuck into a tasty meal, savour some winning wines and settle into a scenic spot to watch the sun cast a fiery glow over the landscape – the perfect end to another dreamy day in Damaraland.
After a revitalising sip of coffee this morning, don your explorers’ caps and prepare for your final adventure in the Erongo Mountains – and Namibia, for that matter.
This time, swap two legs for four wheels as you hop in a 4x4 for a dramatic drive through the foothills, where you’ll find a series of Bushman rock art engravings. While you’re gazing at these pretty pictures, your guide will explain their history, the techniques used to create them and how they can be interpreted.
Suitably wowed, return to camp, tuck into a delicious dinner and gaze up at the star-studded sky before bed. A fitting finale to a glorious trip.
Sadly, the time has come to return home. Enjoy a bountiful breakfast on the deck this morning, soaking up your stunning surroundings one last time, then buckle up for the two-hour-and-30-minute drive back to Windhoek, where you'll return your hire car and head to the airport.
Your overnight return flight to the UK connects through Cape Town, meaning you’ll be in the air for a total of 14 hours. So, sit back, slip on an eye mask and start counting sheep (or desert-adapted black rhinos).
