Ready to experience the magic of Southern Africa? On this 11-day family adventure, experience the best of Zimbabwe and Botswana’s flora and fauna, from the breathtaking Victoria Falls to the myriad wildlife in the Okavango Delta.

Your trip begins at Victoria Falls, where parents can enjoy the sunset on a cruise along the Zambezi and youngsters can delight in an exciting tree climbing adventure over the gushing water. Once you’ve had your fill of the falls, it’s time to swap Zimbabwe for Botswana as you make your way to a comfortable camp in Chobe National Park. Home to Africa’s largest elephant herds, along with buffaloes, hippos, hyenas and more, Chobe is the perfect introduction to African wildlife, and you’ll be treated to two safaris per day to ensure the best chance of spotting these animals in their natural habitats. Finally, fly at low altitude above herds of elephants to the Okavango Delta, where you’ll share stories around the campfire and explore the bush in search of lions, leopards and giraffes. One thing’s for sure: the children won’t forget this holiday in a hurry…

Please note that for this trip, we recommend that children are at least six years old.

Itinerary

100% customisable for you

Passports at the ready: your family adventure to Southern Africa begins today. Head to the airport, speed through security and enjoy some nibbles in the lounge before boarding your overnight flight to Victoria Falls. Including a quick stopover, the journey will take around 17 hours in total, but don’t worry: we’ll arm the little ones with tailored family fun packs to keep them entertained.

On arrival the following morning, you’ll be met at the airport and privately transferred to your hotel. You’ll likely be tired after the long journey, so check in and spend the rest of the afternoon relaxing (post-flight nap optional).

Come evening, kick off your holiday properly with a sunset cruise on the Zambezi River. Bundle the children out of the hotel, climb aboard a vintage boat and enjoy a tasty sundowner (mocktails for the little ones, of course) as the sun sets over the water. If the youngsters aren’t quite old enough to appreciate the sunset, don’t worry: keep them entertained with an epic game of I-Spy, looking out for hippos, crocodiles and other wildlife.

After a hearty breakfast this morning, head out for your first full day in Zimbabwe. This morning, we’ve arranged for you and the little ones to go tree climbing over the Zambezi River. Alongside an expert guide, venture up to a treetop climbing path for an adrenaline-filled adventure, complete with rope bridges, a whopping nine ziplines and stunning views over the Zambezi River and Victoria Falls.

Once you’re safely back on solid ground, counteract the adrenaline rush with a visit to the Lookout Café, an iconic eatery complete with a panoramic terrace overlooking the river and Batoka Gorge. After a tasty meal (and a few scenic snaps), head back to your hotel for a relaxing afternoon in the sun.

This morning, it’s time to say goodbye to Zimbabwe and hello to Botswana as you’re privately transferred to Chobe National Park. After assisting you with customs at the Kasane border, your friendly driver will continue along the Chobe River, where the little ones can spot a range of African wildlife, from antelope and elephants.

Once you arrive in Chobe National Park, check into your camp, where you’ll be staying for the next two nights. Your new home overlooks the bush, so spend the afternoon watching animals pass by or splashing about in the pool before enjoying a delicious dinner al fresco.

Covering 4,517 square miles in northern Botswana, Chobe National Park is home to a staggering 45,000 elephants, the most of any African national park. But these incredible animals aren’t Chobe’s only inhabitants: during your time in the camp, you’ll likely see lions, hippos, buffaloes, crocodiles and antelopes wandering the humid plains.

Over the next two days, the family will be treated to two safari outings per day, starting with a land safari in a comfortable 4x4. As you traverse the park, your expert guide will point out animal tracks, listen out for animal calls and take you to watering holes where local wildlife tend to gather.

Your second safari offers a different perspective on the park as you glide along the Chobe River in a motorboat. Along the way, pass splashing elephants, bumbling hippos, colourful birds and other wildlife living on the riverbanks.

This morning, leave Chobe behind and head deeper into the heart of Botswana towards the legendary Okavango Delta. After a hearty breakfast, you’ll be picked up by a friendly driver and taken back to Kasane, where a small taxi plane will be waiting for you on the landing strip. You’ll then fly for 30 minutes above the meandering delta towards your camp, keeping your eyes peeled for herds of giraffes or elephants below.

Once you arrive, you’ll be privately transferred to a remote camp in the Selinda Game Reserve, where you’ll be spending the next three nights. Set just east of the delta, this camp is all about slow adventures in the bush: think 4x4 safaris, guided hikes and wildlife-spotting from a mokoro (a long traditional canoe). Spend the rest of the afternoon settling into your new surroundings before ending the night with a tasty dinner in the dining room and a chat around the crackling campfire.

Set near the floodplains of the Okavango Delta and the mouth of its eponymous river, Khwai is a relatively untouched region of Botswana that boasts an incredible range of African wildlife. Spend the next few days discovering your new surroundings on game drives with expert guides, soaking up the scenery and admiring the flora and fauna.

While you’re here, you’ll be treated to views over winding canals, ponds and islands, and, above all, get up close and personal with animals you’ve only dreamed of seeing in real life (cameras at the ready…). From lions, leopards and cheetahs to antelopes, giraffes and hippos, this incredible African region is sure to impress both parents and little ones alike.

It’s time to wave goodbye to Africa today as your family adventure sadly comes to an end. After one last bush breakfast, you’ll be transferred back to Maun International Airport, watching out of the windows for one last glimpse of the local wildlife.

From Maun, it’s a one-and-a-half-hour flight to Johannesburg, where you’ll board your overnight flight home. The flight will take around 11-and-a-half hours, and you’ll arrive back in the UK the following day, ready to regale your friends and family with tales of your family adventure.
