Time Difference

Switzerland is one hour ahead of United Kingdom (GMT) and they currently observe daylight saving time, so the time shifts one hour twice per year.

Money

You can usually change money at any Swiss bank, airport, main railway station and at major hotels, with Swiss banks offering the best exchange rates. Mastercard, Visa and American Express credit cards are widely accepted in Switzerland and it is advisable to take a credit card with a chip in it.

Electricity

Electricity in Switzerland is 220 volts and the power plugs and sockets are two types C and J, which means you don't need a voltage converter in Switzerland but will need an adapter.

Shops and Amenities

Generally, merchants open from 9am until 6.30pm on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays with Thursdays in larger towns and cities opening from 9am until 8 or 9pm. Saturday hours are usually 9am to 4pm with shops closed on Sundays (except for bakeries, which may be open in the morning).

Besides Zurich, 20 Minuten also has editions published in Bern, Basel, Luzern and St. Gallen. A vast majority of the country is covered by cable networks; the major cable television operators is UPC Switzerland with several channels typically in German, French or Italian. Although a growing number provide English-speaking programming.

Although opening hours may vary, most are open from Monday to Friday between 8:30am and 12:00pm and then 1:30pm to 6:30pm, and on Saturday between 8:30am and 12:00pm.

Internet and Mobile Coverage

In Switzerland they have some of the fastest internet speeds available, with great coverage throughout the country. The country also has three major operators, each with its own network. These are Swisscom, Salt Mobile, and Sunrise Mobile, again with great coverage.
