Where would we send the Obamas if they were in need of a luxury getaway? Mexico's Yucatán Peninsula, a culture-heavy beachside spot . Discover our (imaginary) itinerary here...
It's been a busy old year for the Obamas..
..what with securing four more years as the most powerful couple on the planet. I reckon they've earned themselves a break, and what better than paying a visit to the neighbours south of the border on a Yucatán Peninsula tour?
I'd tell them to start inland..
..at one of the amazing luxury haciendas so they can visit some spectacular Mayan temples and wander around the sleepy cobblestone streets of Izamal. The ideal would be the elegant 18th century Hacienda Santa Rosa, which is extremely discreet but has enough room for bodyguards galore. Michelle will appreciate the art school in the nearby town where local women can make and sell handicrafts.
Next stop should be the Riviera Maya coastline..
..and one of the heavenly beachfront hotels there. Esencia is an elegant retreat that's suitably far removed from the bright lights of Cancun that lure so many of the President's more boisterous compatriots.
The Obamas can enjoy some serious R&R and superb diving although Barack might not be able to resist the lure of nearby (and spectacular) Playa Mujeres golf course, particularly because it was built in conjunction with local ecologists.
