Practical advice and inspiration to help you prepare for your holiday
Our Americas team know the region extremely well and are on hand to tailor-make family holidays in Central America designed to your exact specifications and family requirements. Then there are the additional services that come as standard on all Original Travel holidays - fast-track check-in and security at the airport, and lounge access even if you're flying economy. In addition, all children aged between three and ten also receive a fun pack from celebrated children's party people Sharky & George full of challenges, games and destination-specific quizzes. Even better, when you're on the ground in Central America, our clued-up local Concierges are on hand to make any additional arrangements.
So, what might the highlights be on a family holiday in Central America? Exhibit A would most likely be Mexico, and the Yucatan Peninsula in particular. You can hang out on wonderful beaches, snorkel (and older children can dive), see manatees in the wild, explore cave systems, wander around colonial towns, learn to cook classic Mexican dishes and - arguably best of all - visit spectacular Mayan cities.
Another classic destination for family holidays in Central America is Costa Rica. No Mayan civilisation here, but wildlife that is second to none in a country with unparalleled biodiversity. You and the brood can spot (and hear) howler monkeys, watch turtles come ashore to lay their eggs, white water raft, whizz on zip lines through rainforest canopy and generally monkey around in this verdant adventure playground.
Elsewhere, Belize is the biz for snorkelling and swimming off coral cayes (islands), and Guatemala offers an intriguing slice of indigenous life, while Nicaragua and Panama might just be the next big thing in family holidays in Central America. Watch these spaces...
