Itinerary

100% customisable for you

Passports at the ready: your Mexican road trip begins today. Head to the airport, speed through security and enjoy some nibbles in the lounge before boarding your flight to Mexico City, which will take around 12 hours.

Once you touch down, you’ll be met and privately transferred to the heart of the city, where you’ll be staying for the next two nights. Thanks to the time difference, it’ll be evening by the time you arrive, so check in and head straight to the hotel restaurant for a relaxing sundowner and a tasty Mexican dinner – the first of many.

This morning, dive into Mexican history and culture with a visit to two of Mexico City’s most iconic markets. After a tasty breakfast, head out with a friendly guide to Mercado Jamaica, the most famous covered market in Mexico. Wander along rows of stalls selling ripe fruit, colourful flowers and local souvenirs, stopping to taste elotes (grilled corn on the cob) and chicharron (crispy fried pork) at the myriad food stands.

Next, it’s onto Sonora, a traditional market dedicated to herbal medicines and witchcraft. A stark contrast to Mercado Jamaica, stalls here are piled high with fragrant herbs, amulets and candles, with sellers offering services such as love spells or cleansing rituals designed to promote healing.

Come evening, we’ve booked a table at Pujol, a must-visit restaurant in Mexico City. Run by one of Mexico’s most famous chefs, Enrique Olvera, this fine dining restaurant combines contemporary cuisine with traditional Mexican flavours and cooking techniques, making it the perfect place to round off your first day.

We’ve left today free for you to explore at your own pace. If you’re looking to discover more of the city, head to the Roma district, just west of the historic centre, which is known for its mix of historic buildings and contemporary culture. Once you’ve wandered Roma’s wide avenues and trendy shops, stroll over to neighbouring Condesa, where decorative Art Nouveau balconies sit side by side with modern Art Deco facades. Both neighbourhoods boast artistic displays, lush green spaces and a variety of shops and restaurants, so we wouldn’t blame you if you spent the entire day here.

Fancy something a little more active? We can also arrange for you to explore these contemporary neighbourhoods by bike, stopping to refuel with a coffee or cerveza.

Pack your bags and wave goodbye to Mexico City this morning as you’re privately transferred back to the airport for your two-and-a-half-hour flight to San Jose del Cabo. Once you touch down, it’s time for your road trip to truly begin, so pick up your trusty hire car and set your sat nav for Cabo Pulmo, a one-and-a-half-hour drive away.

You’ll likely be tired after all that travelling, so once you arrive, check into your hotel and spend the rest of the afternoon relaxing in the sun. Come evening, either enjoy a tasty dinner in the hotel or, if you’re raring to go, head out to one of the local restaurants – our clued-up Concierge is on hand to recommend some hidden gems.

A far cry from Mexico City’s buzzing streets, Cabo Pulmo is a protected marine reserve set on the coast of Baja California. Designated a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2005, this renowned reserve boasts over 800 marine species, earning it the affectionate nickname of the ‘Aquarium of the World’.

Today, you’ll dive straight into Cabo Pulmo with a snorkelling trip in the reserve. Alongside an expert guide, head out onto the crystalline water on a sailboat before masking up and diving down to the reef. As you glide above the healthy coral gardens, keep your eyes peeled for schools of angelfish, parrotfish and wrasse. If you’re lucky, you might even spot elusive green sea turtles or graceful manta rays passing by.

Once you’ve been suitably wowed, head back to the hotel for a sun-soaked beach afternoon.

Enjoy a slow morning today before hopping back in your hire car, hitting play on our expertly curated Mexico playlist and beginning the hour-long drive to Santiago. Once you arrive, check into your hotel, where you’ll be staying for the next two nights.

Spend the rest of the day lounging by the pool, enjoying a massage or trying your hand at a yoga class, before settling into the hotel restaurant for a sundowner and a delicious dinner.

We’ve left today free for you to enjoy at your leisure. If you’re after a little more R&R, feel free to lounge by the hotel pool and lose yourself in a holiday read, but if you’re ready and raring to go, head out to explore your surroundings.

Originally established by Jesuits, Santiago is a historic village in the heart of Baja California. Despite the Jesuits’ expulsion, Santiago retains some of its missionary history today, and you can dive into the past in the central Church of Santiago Apostol or in the abundance of nearby cattle ranches.

Fancy a little more nature? You’re in luck: Santiago is surrounded by desert mountains, rocky canyons and waterfalls, so pull on your walking boots and head out for a hike. There are a range of routes, but our favourite is Zorra Canyon, which we can arrange for you to hike under the supervision of an expert guide. While you wander, keep an eye out for some of the region’s birdlife, from the tiny hummingbird to the cartoonish roadrunner.

After a hearty breakfast this morning, bundle your bags into the car and set off on the two-hour drive north to La Paz. Along the way, stop at El Triunfo, once a thriving silver-mining hub during the 19th-century Gold Rush. The town is now a thriving cultural and culinary hub, so hop out of the car to admire its historic architecture, visit its museums, or simply sample a taste of the local cuisine.

Back on the road, drive for just under an hour until you reach La Paz, where you’ll be staying for the next two nights. If you’re tired after all that morning exploring, spend the afternoon relaxing at your hotel; if not, head out on a walking tour of La Paz’s colourful street art with a friendly local guide.

Today is all about sun, sea and snorkelling. Set a few miles from La Paz, the UNESCO-listed island of Espiritu Santo is a true hidden gem set in the Sea of Cortez. The island is renowned for its pristine waters and variety of marine life, including a sizeable population of cheerful sea lions.

This morning, you’ll be picked up and transferred to the island, where an expert guide will help you gear up before diving into the warm waters. As you snorkel along the rich coral reefs, keep an eye out for angelfish, parrotfish and manta rays flitting past. If you’re lucky, you’ll also have the chance to swim alongside the legendary sea lions, as well as whale sharks, hammerheads and dolphins.

Hit the road again this morning for the final leg of your Mexican road trip: a one-hour drive to Todos Santos. Once you arrive in this coastal town, check in and drop your bags before enjoying a leisurely lunch in your hotel.

The rest of your time here is yours for the taking. The town’s beaches are perfect for a relaxing stroll, but be careful: the waves might look inviting, but the currents here are pretty strong. If you’re after a dip, jump in the car and drive 15 minutes south to the perfectly swimmable Los Cerritos (or simply lounge by the pool).

If you prefer culture to scenery, you’re in luck: Todos Santos has ‘Pueblo Magico’ status, meaning that it boasts rich traditions, storied history and fantastic cuisine. Spend some time exploring this bohemian town, whether you’d rather marvel at its colonial architecture, visit one of its many galleries or stop for a cerveza at a terrace bar.

Up for a bit of adventure? We can also arrange for you to try your hand at surfing under the guidance of an expert local guide or go horseback riding at sunset along the town’s beaches and sand dunes.

It’s sadly time for your Mexican getaway to come to an end. This morning, enjoy one last breakfast before driving one and a half hours to San Jose del Cabo Airport for your two-hour flight back to Mexico City. On arrival, board your overnight flight home, which takes around ten hours. You’ll arrive in the UK the next day, armed with a suitcase full of souvenirs and a perfectly golden tan.
