Piedmont sits quietly at the foot of the Alps, bordered by France and Switzerland yet unmistakably Italian in its flavours, architecture and flair. While travellers often flock to Rome, Florence and Venice, this corner of northern Italy offers something altogether calmer...

This six-day journey begins in Turin, the region’s refined capital, where cafe-lined squares, arcaded streets and world-class museums set the scene. Wander the elegant historic centre with a private guide, visiting Piazza Vittorio Veneto, one of the largest squares in Europe, and Quadrilatero Romano, the old Roman quarter. You can also stop to sample some traditional delicacies at Porta Palazzo market en route.

From here, drive south into the Langhe: a landscape of rolling hills, Medieval villages and vineyards famous for producing Barolo wine. Your base is a charming countryside retreat surrounded by orchards, hazelnut groves and the region’s iconic patchwork of vines. Days unfold at an easy rhythm – leisurely drives, long lunches and walks between hilltop towns – with a gourmet tour of Alba introducing you to the flavours that define this pocket of Italy, from prized white truffles to local wines.

Itinerary

100% customisable for you

Your northern Italy adventure begins with a two-hour flight from the UK to Turin. On arrival, a private driver will be waiting to take you into the city, where your boutique hotel sits within one of Turin’s most elegant central districts – the perfect base for exploring Piedmont’s capital.

After settling in, spend the rest of the afternoon unwinding or strolling beneath the city’s arcaded walkways before dinner at a nearby trattoria (our Concierge can recommend the best neighbourhood options).

This morning, meet your private guide for a two-hour tour of Turin’s historic centre. Wander the grand piazzas and Baroque avenues before dipping into the narrow, cobbled streets of Quadrilatero Romano, the old Roman city. Marvel at the ornate Santuario della Consolata basilica, then explore the Porta Palazzo – the largest market in Europe, where around 800 merchants have manned colourful stalls for over a century. We’ll also organise fast-track entrance tickets to the Egyptian Museum – one of the most impressive collections of antiquities outside of Cairo – giving you time to browse its highlights at your own pace after your tour.

Spend the rest of the day in Turin at your leisure. Continue exploring independently or opt for a privately arranged vintage car tour through the city – a charming way to see Turin’s palaces, riverside boulevards and leafy parks. As evening approaches, pause in one of the city’s historic cafés for a bicerin, Turin’s famously indulgent (and delicious) chocolate-and-coffee creation.

After a hearty breakfast at your hotel, pick up your rental car and drive south towards the Langhe, the vineyard-scattered heartland of Piedmont. The journey should take around one-and-a-half hours, winding through rolling hills, hazelnut groves and villages surrounded by neat stripes of vines.

Your base for the next three nights is an elegant countryside retreat boasting views of alpine peaks and Barolo vineyards. This is the ideal place to begin exploring the enchanting region’s rich flavours and traditions. Settle in, breathe the country air and enjoy a slow afternoon. How does a walk among the vineyards sound? Or perhaps you’d rather have a long lunch featuring local cheeses, truffle-infused dishes and Piedmontese wines.

Over the next two days, explore the Langhe at a leisurely pace. One morning, drive the short 20 minutes to the historic town of Alba. Wander through Medieval streets as you sample the region’s most celebrated flavours – roasted hazelnuts, delicious white truffles, artisanal cheeses and a glass (or two) of Barolo, known locally as ‘the wine of kings, the king of wines’. If you’re keen to delve deeper into the area’s culinary heritage, we can also arrange a truffle hunt with an expert guide and dog.

Spend the rest of your time here enjoying this tranquil area. Follow scenic country lanes between hilltop villages, stop at family-run wineries for tastings, or simply enjoy long, lingering meals that celebrate the region’s farm-to-table traditions. If you’d like restaurant recommendations or wine estate suggestions, your Concierge is only a message away.

Sadly, it’s time to say goodbye to northern Italy. Drive back to Turin Airport this morning – approximately one-and-a-half hours – and drop off your rental car before boarding your flight back to the UK. Land home later today enriched with new stories, full bellies and a deeper appreciation for one of Italy’s most quietly remarkable regions.
