Inspiration for your own tailor-made trip
The American West,Las Vegas & the Grand Canyon
100% customisable for you
Rise and shine – your adventure through the American West begins today. Head to the airport and enjoy a tipple in the lounge before boarding your ten-hour-and-40-minute flight from London to Las Vegas.
You’ll arrive at McCarran International Airport in the early evening, so hop in a classic yellow cab for the short ride to your hotel. Unpack your bags and enjoy a tasty evening meal before collapsing into bed, ready for a busy day of exploring tomorrow.
Your trip begins with a day in Vegas, so spend some time independently soaking up the glitz and glamour of ‘Sin City’. Visit local attractions, like the High Roller Ferris Wheel, learn about the city’s history of organised crime on a tour of the Mob Museum and stroll through the Bellagio Conservatory and Botanical Gardens, taking in the fantastical designs.
Come evening, wander along the vibrant streets illuminated by glowing signs and glittering buildings. Pop into the Forum Shops, a swanky mall housing some of the biggest names in fashion, or book a poker class (you’re in Vegas, after all) and put your skills to the test in one of the casinos. While you’re in town, it would be criminal not to catch one of the city’s fantastic shows – and whether you prefer Cirque du Soleil or Jersey Boys, we can book your tickets in advance to avoid any pesky queues.
Today, it’s time to swap the lights of Vegas for the wilds of Zion National Park. Pick up your hire car and make the two-hour drive upstate, where you’ll be greeted by ochre mountains and scenic landscapes. You’ll be spending the next two nights at a lodge conveniently located at the entrance to the park, so you can fully explore the park’s beauty.
Spend your time at Zion enjoying guided hikes (tailored to your experience level) and taking in the breathtaking views of dramatic cliffs and lush forests. Fancy trying your hand at climbing? We can arrange a visit to the Zion mountaineering school for a few lessons from an expert. If heights aren’t your thing but you’re still after an adrenaline rush, swap bouldering for tubing along the Virgin River.
This morning, set your satnav for Torrey, a small village at the edge of Capitol Reef National Park, where you’ll be staying tonight. It’s a three-hour drive to your final destination, so break up the journey with a visit to Bryce Canyon National Park. Stretch your legs on a hike along the Rim Trail, which takes you past the park’s dramatic hoodoos (jagged pillars of red rock formed by ice and water erosion). As you explore these natural amphitheatres, keep an eye out for local wildlife, including peregrine falcons, antelope and cute Uinta chipmunks.
Once you’ve had your fill of exploring, hop back into the car for the remaining two hours of your journey to Torrey. Check into your hotel and spend the evening relaxing by the pool as the sun disappears behind Capitol Reef’s towering peaks.
The next stop on your national park adventure is Moab, a four-hour drive away (the longest journey of the trip). This pretty city boasts jaw-dropping views over the dramatic red cliffs and the Colorado River, and will be your base for the next three nights.
During your stay, take some time to explore Arches National Park in all its glory. Hike along winding trails and under impressive stone arches, many of which bear unusual names such as Marching Men, Tower Arch or Eye of the Whale. Venture further into Canyonlands for ancient dinosaur footprints, petroglyphs and pictograms.
Craving a little more adventure? We can arrange for you to go whitewater rafting along the Colorado River – an adrenaline-fuelled activity sure to get your blood pumping.
Today, say goodbye to Moab and hello to Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park, a two-and-a-half-hour drive away. This park straddles the border of Arizona and Utah and is easily one of the most photographed national parks in the US, complete with deep red mesas and 1,000ft sandstone towers.
After checking into your hotel and refuelling with a late lunch, head out on a hike along The Wildcat Trail. Cameras at the ready: this four-mile walk takes you past immense sand dunes, deep valleys and shallow trenches that once held gushing streams.
This morning, swap desert for water as you drive two hours to Lake Powell, a man-made reservoir set (mostly) in Glen Canyon National Recreation Area. The lake was formed in 1963, when the Glen Canyon Dam held back water from the Colorado River, and now the vast body of water is a permanent fixture within the million-acre national park.
Check into your hotel and spend the next few days enjoying the sublime scenery and taking advantage of the many water sports on offer. Step out on a guided hike through Antelope Canyon, a narrow gorge carved by erosion and wind, or, if you fancy a little more luxury, we can arrange for you to embark on a scenic boat tour of the lake, either during the day or at sunset.
It’s time for the last leg of your national park adventure, so hop in the car and continue on to your final hotel, a few miles from the Grand Canyon National Park. You’ll be spending the next two nights here, so unpack, don your walking boots and head out into the park.
There’s a reason the Grand Canyon is legendary: measuring 277 miles in length, up to 18 miles wide and over a mile deep in parts, this natural wonder is truly unmissable. We think the best way to take in the sheer scale and incredible beauty of the Grand Canyon is from the skies, so we’ve arranged a helicopter tour for an aerial view over the canyon.
Once back on the ground, head to one of many lookouts around the canyon rim. Cameras at the ready: these viewing points offer a perfect panorama over the jagged ochre walls.
Today, it’s (sadly) time to begin your journey home. Load up the car and drive four hours back to Las Vegas for your evening flight. Once you arrive at the airport, drop your hire car off and relax in the lounge before catching your international flight home. You’ll land the following day, ready to regale your family and friends with tales of your national park adventure.
