Route
International Flight
Your tailor-made family trip to Lisbon begins with a morning flight to the Portuguese capital. The flight takes a little under three hours, so it's a good idea to have the iPads charged and the Sharky and George packs at the ready. After clearing customs, you will be met by one of our team on the ground for the private transfer to a centrally located hotel.
Spend the rest of the afternoon at leisure: do a bit of sightseeing, ride the iconic Tram 28 and treat the children with a visit to the Lisbon Oceanarium, where they can see colourful pufferfish and exotic ocean sunfish.
Our concierge can recommend a great, family-friendly restaurant for your evening meal. Then it's off to bed for a good night's sleep.
Exploring Sao Jorge Castle and Alfama District
After breakfast at the hotel, it's time for the first activity of your tailor-made family trip to Lisbon. Head to Saint George Castle, one of the landmarks of Lisbon, and meet your guide for a fun-filled two-hour tour. Admire the architecture of the castle and the historic interiors and take in the breath-taking views over the city.
Next, make your way downhill through the winding narrow streets of Alfama, the oldest district of Lisbon. Admire the colourful buildings and discover traces of the Moorish past.
The tour ends on the Praca do Comercio, an imposing square that used to be the home of the Royal Ribeira Palace.
The children will be kept engaged and entertained with a game booklet and if you add a couple of pasteis de natas (Portuguese custard tarts), you'll be a frontrunner in the race for parent of the year.
Visit Pena Palace and Sintra
Today, you will be privately transferred from your hotel to explore the picturesque town of Sintra. The drive will last around an hour and we recommend getting an early start to avoid the crowds. Your private guide will lead you around Pena Palace, a fairy tale-like castle, with charming rooms and narrow corridors. Take in the scenic views of the nearby Castelo dos Mouros (Moorish Castle) and the lush green gardens.
The little ones will have a great time discovering hidden nooks and secret passages, with plenty of room to run around and play.
Afterwards, make your way to the old city centre of Sintra. Explore the gardens of Quinta da Regaleira and hike up to the medieval Castle of Moors.
Create An Azulejo Ceramic
Today is the last day of your tailor-made family trip to Lisbon. Tuck into an early breakfast and then enjoy a charming art workshop where you will learn about the ceramic tilework of the region and create your own Azulejo ceramic. Your art teacher will give you a brief introduction to the history and technique of Azulejo in Portugal and then it's time to roll up your sleeves and start decorating a ceramic sardine, one for each family member. The activity will last around two hours and at the end you get to take the ceramic sardines home as a souvenir to remind you of your fun family trip to Lisbon.
Savour a tasty lunch, do a bit of last-minute sightseeing and then it's time to head over to the airport for your two-hours-and-forty-five-minutes flight back home.
