The Lotus Houseboat allows guests to cruise uninterrupted through the backwaters of Malabar in Northern Kerala, soaking up the sights of the diverse surrounding nature and wildlife.
As part of the Neleeshwar Hermitage, the Lotus Houseboat is part of a two to four day experience designed to explore the endless beauty of the backwaters. With the possibility of a rejuvenating stay at the hotel in one of four cottages, climbing aboard the houseboat begins the real adventure.
There are two rooms in The Lotus, named Sukhima ('Happiness') and Lalima ('Beauty'), sentiments which seem to aptly sum up this Keralan experience. Ensuite bathrooms and air conditioning are both provided, and while there are large windows from which to view, the rooms remain entirely private. Furnished with intricately designed teak furniture and flooring, along with al fresco dining areas, a sitting room and sun deck, Lotus Houseboat is a truly tranquil floating retreat. The charming housekeeping staff, experienced chef and captain make sure your every need is attended to and they come armed with a wealth of knowledge of the backwaters themselves.
Local backwater cuisine is on the menu, and while drifting through this peaceful area, you might also get to glimpse a jumping red snapper emerging from the calm waters.
Both Yoga and Ayuverdic massages are available, as well as cookery lessons and fishing, where a hungry array of birds will flock to assess the catch of the day. The possibility to visit Monkey Island is also available, with a short walk on to the Naga snake deities, a hidden ancient shrine.
The Lotus Houseboat provides an opportunity to visit one of the most atmospheric areas of Kerala in the comfort and the elegance of a converted rice barge.
