The little sister of one of our favourite Maldivian retreats, Huvafen Fushi, PER AQUUM Niyama opened its doors in March 2012. It is every bit as luxurious and spoiling, with an added dose of funk and attitude in the form of the world's first underwater nightclub.
Accommodation is spread across 134 individual Studios, Suites and Pavilions, from Beach Studios featuring a private deck with direct beach access, to stilted Overwater Pavilions, to Two Bedroom Beach Pavilions, perfect for families. All Studios, Suites and Pavilions come with private pools, except for the Beach Studios.
The staple dining options at PER AQUUM Niyama include: Epicure, a poolside restaurant offering an international la carte menu, Tribal, which is designed as a modern day campsite where guests can watch their food being cooked in front of them and Edge, located 1600ft off shore, and only accessible by boat - a first for the Maldives. The Deli is a Coffee shop, also serving fresh sandwiches and smoothies to go, whilst roof top bar Fahrenheit offers spectacular views over the Indian Ocean.
Newer additions to the dining scene at PER AQUUM Niyama include BLU, for casual all day dining and the poolside ice-cream parlour, and the soon-to-open Nest, the Maldives first and only open air restaurant perched in the canopy of aged Banyan trees, offering a distinctly Asian menu. Night owls can get their fix at Dune, a laid back bistro by day and an alfresco beach club with live music and DJ's by night, and underwater venue Subsix, 1600ft off shore and 10ft under the surface, and the world's first underwater music club.
Being the first is one of PER AQUUM Niyama's mottos, as is also apparent in LIME, the first 24 hour spa in the Maldives where guests can have treatments both day and night. Aching muscles after too much dancing at Subsix? Head to the LIME spa for a midnight massage. The spa also offers a variety of treatments throughout the day, has a contemplation garden, his and her treatment rooms, yoga classes, and a 24 hour gym.
Whilst parents are pampered in LIME, their little ones can escape to the Children's Club. The new children's club caters for little ones for 12 months to 12 years - another 'first' for the Maldives in offering facilities for under 3's. Divided into four age groups, there are plenty of activities and facilities on offer to keep the children entertained and exerted, from a sleeping room for daytime siesta's, to beach cricket, snorkelling safaris and Master Chef Classes.
Not just for the night owls, there is plenty to do at PER AQUUM Niyama during the day, including dhoni excursions, numerous watersports and PADI dive courses. There is also a main swimming pool and even a Marine Biology lab.
Many of the pavilions are assigned a personal Thakaru - a butler on hand 24 hours.
