Looking to whisk your favourite person away somewhere special? Few places rival the romance of the Maldives. On this 11-day escape, discover two idyllic islands, balancing ocean adventures with beachy bliss and plenty of just-us time.

Your journey kicks off with a flight to Male, where you’ll hop into a speedboat and zip away to the castaway island of Makunudu, a pocket-sized paradise nestled in the North Male Atoll. If your better half’s a water baby, they’re in for a real treat: spend your days kayaking across turquoise lagoons, learning the art of traditional Maldivian fishing and slipping beneath the surface on snorkelling and scuba diving excursions, where coral gardens teeming with tropical fish await.

When it’s time to come up for air, the island’s slower charms await. Claim a double sun lounger or roll out a beach towel for two beneath the swaying palms, soaking up a blissful dose of vitamin D and embracing the wonderfully laid-back rhythm of island life.

Next, it’s on to the island of Dhigurah, where days are spent cycling between sleepy villages and setting sail in search of the Maldives’ majestic marine life before an afternoon siesta in the shade. Throw in plenty of fresh coconuts, beach bonfires and dinners spent watching the sun slip below the horizon, and you’ve got the island escape of dreams.

Itinerary

100% customisable for you

After lots of daydreaming, counting down the days and checking the weather forecast, your romantic escape to the Maldives officially starts today. Head to the airport, breeze through security and settle into the lounge for some fizz and nibbles before boarding.

Your first overnight flight will take you to a hub in the Middle East, where you’ll have a short stopover before continuing on to Male. You’ll spend around 13 hours in the air, so snuggle up in your seats and try to catch some Z’s before arriving in the Maldivian capital.

When you touch down, a 45-minute speedboat ride will whisk you across the Indian Ocean to Makunudu Island, located in the North Male Atoll. Once here, check in to your beachfront resort – your home for the next four nights.

Keen to unwind after all that travelling? Depending on your arrival time, you could take a dip in the pool, bask in the sunshine or simply crawl into bed and call it a day.

The next few days are all about soft-sand beaches, azure waters and making memories together.

The beauty of a castaway island like this? The ocean is never more than a few steps away. Mask, flippers and snorkel on, dive straight into a thriving underwater world, where turtles glide by, sharks cruise the reef and kaleidoscopic shoals of fish dart between the coral. Above the surface, paddle across the lagoon by kayak, cast a line on a traditional fishing trip or set sail aboard a catamaran and see where the ocean breeze takes you.

Back on dry land, slip into sandals and take the short stroll around the island (all 15 minutes of it), discovering your favourite stretch of shoreline to soak up that oh-so-glorious Maldivian sunshine. And, when R&R levels need that extra boost, treat yourselves to a couple’s massage soundtracked by the rolling waves.

As evening rolls around, claim a front-row spot for a candlelit movie night on the beach, then drift hand-in-hand back to your villa beneath a sparkling canopy of stars.

Fuel up with a hearty breakfast: another slice of paradise awaits.

This morning, climb aboard a speedboat for the journey back to Male Airport, where you’ll board a 30-minute domestic flight to the island of Maamigili. Let your better half claim the window seat, share a pair of earphones and tune into our destination-specific playlist as you admire the emerald islets and gleaming waters below.

When you land, it’s back on a speedboat for the ten-minute ride to the island of Dhigurah. Once there, make your way to your ocean-view villa – your home away from home for the next five nights.

Drop your bags and make a beeline for the beach. Take your pick between a lounger in a sun-drenched spot or a palm-shaded patch of sand – perhaps with a cocktail to celebrate your arrival?

Lather on the sunscreen and charge the camera – you have two days of island adventures ahead of you.

Whether you’re windsurfing across the lagoon, wandering nature trails or hopping on a bicycle and pedalling along Dhigurah’s sandy lanes, there’s plenty to keep you busy. Fancy adding a few more islands to your Maldivian collection? Set sail across the atoll and discover neighbouring shores, keeping your eyes peeled (and fingers crossed) for dolphins leaping through the surf.

All that island explorin’ is bound to work up a thirst, so share a coconut, likely chopped from a palm on that very shoreline, then return to your villa for a heavenly out-in-the-sun-all-day nap.

Refreshed and recharged, head out for candlelit dinners on the beach, going for whatever looks good on the grill – perhaps gulha (fish and coconut dumplings) or kulhi boakibaa (a fish cake with a fiery chilli kick).

The last two days of your love-laced trip are all yours to enjoy island life.

Sleep in, roll out of bed and perhaps try out some beachside yoga before taking an amble along the coast, snapping plenty of photos together as you go (holiday album sorted). And, when hunger strikes at lunchtime, feast on dishes like garudhiya (fragrant fish broth) or mas huni, a beloved Maldivian blend of tuna, coconut and chilli.

For something sweet, hop between local ice cream parlours in search of your new favourite flavour, then stretch out on the sand to top up your tan, taking the occasional dip in the sea when you need to cool off.

Finish each day sun-kissed, salt-speckled and satisfied with a seafood dinner on the beach, clinking celebratory glasses of champagne as the sky glows gold over the Indian Ocean. Cheers to that.

Time flies when you’re having fun and, sadly, your romantic Maldivian escape has come to an end.

This morning, hop aboard a speedboat and zip back to Maamigili Island before boarding the 30-minute domestic flight to Male, where you’ll connect onto your international flight home. A short stopover in a Middle Eastern hub breaks up the journey, giving you the chance to stretch your legs (and perhaps pick up a last-minute duty-free gift for your partner).

All in all, you’ll spend around 13 hours in the air – plenty of time to flick through your photos, relive the highlights and pitch your next trip idea to your other half...
