COMO Maalifushi is the group’s second luxury hotel in the Maldives after Cocoa Island, and has recently opened in the more remote south-western Thaa Atoll.
There are 66 suites and villas in total, some dotted around lush gardens on the island, and others on stilts in the turquoise lagoon reached by wooden walkways. The inter-connecting garden rooms are perfect for families while the garden suites have direct beach access. Last but not least, the garden villas also have private pools. Of the overwater properties, the water suites have lovely sunset views and the water villas with pool have just that, plus a sun terrace. The jewel in the Maalifushi crown is the Water Villa, which has its own jetty, terrace and private pool.
There are three restaurants in total, including an all-day dining option at Madi which serves international classics with a local twist; Thila Bar for oven baked pizzas and seafood and finally Tai for super-fresh sushi.
As with all COMO hotels there is a Shambhala Retreat Spa, and Maalifushi's has eight treatment rooms and an expert team specialising in Asian treatments including massages and Ayurvedics, a steam room, sauna, Jacuzzi and yoga pavilion. The more energetic inclined can surf on nearby breaks, enjoy sunset cruises, picnic on deserted neighbouring islands or dive and snorkel with the whale sharks who are regular visitors to the region.
Why we love it
Because Cocoa Island is one of our favourite places in the Maldives, and Maalifushi promises to be every bit as good.
