Luxury Train Travel North America

From the vast wildernesses of Canada’s Rocky Mountains to the culture-filled cities of the USA’s East Coast, luxury train travel in North America is an excellent way to explore the many facets of the world’s third-largest continent.

One of our favourite train journeys in Canada, and one that can be done in total luxury and comfort, is the Rocky Mountaineer route. Running from the scenic Banff National Park in the province of Alberta to the vibrant city of Vancouver on the coast of British Colombia (and stopping off in mountainous Kamloops along the way), this train has been specially made to ensure that over the two day journey, you can simply focus on sitting back and enjoy the truly breathtaking views of the Canadian Rocky Mountains out of the oversized windows.

Just over the border from western Canada into Alaska, you can enjoy equally dramatic views on the Denali Star, which runs from Anchorage - Alaska's capital in the south of the state - to Fairbanks in the middle. It passes through Wasilla and Talkeetna before entering Denali National Park, where you'll wind your way through incredible landscapes including past North America's tallest mountain. Their upper-class cars have just a small strip of ceiling, leaving the rest of the roof and windows as glass, allowing panoramic views as you make the 12-hour journey.

On the other side of the US, the Adirondack flows through the north-east from New York City to Montreal, just over the border into Canada. Although just a quick ten-hour trip, the route tracks through the Hudson Valley and the Adirondacks, which are scenic all year round, but especially so during autumn where the trees dramatically change colour into vibrant reds and oranges. Watching the seasons change like this - a pastime that's called leaf peeping by locals - is popular in this part of the world, and train is one of the best ways to do it, so it's an excellent choice is you're looking for luxury train travel in North America.

But this is just the tip of the iceberg. Our team of Americas experts can also help you explore the Deep South by train, the Great Lakes region of the Midwest, the Pacific Coast and more by train, and plan all manner of exclusive and enriching activities to enjoy along the way. Plus, once you get to wherever you're training to, our network of local Concierges can help you with last minute requests and queries, whether it's help booking tickets or dinner reservations.
