Family Maldives

One of the great debates in travel (well, in the Original Travel office at any rate) is whether a destination can be ideal both for honeymoons and family holidays. Logic would suggest not, but the Maldives somehow manages to pull off this particularly clever trick. In fact, one idyllic Maldivian resort relented from its original ‘no kids’ policy after so many former honeymooners requested to bring their children who had been conceived while on the island!

So why are the Maldives so good for family holidays? It's a heady combination - direct flights and easy transfers, cracking weather in many of the key school holiday periods, superb facilities and finally perfect paradise islands all surrounded by lagoons that make for perfect natural 'shallow ends' about three feet deep and full of iridescent fishlife the children will love snorkelling after.

The family-friendly tag doesn't apply to all the island resorts, mind, but when it does, the destinations in question are mighty hard to beat. For our family holiday portfolio we have picked just a handful of the very best of the bunch, which cater for children every bit as well as others look after lovestruck grown-ups.
