Take Flight: the Best New Flight Routes for 2019

If you're looking to fly away to pastures new in 2019, we have compiled a list of the most exciting new flight routes from around the world to give you some inspiration. While some are opening up new destinations previously hard to reach, others are creating the opportunity for some cool combos or stopovers. It's safe to say we're quite excited about all these new possibilities.

Norwegian Airlines have expanded their domestic network in Argentina, making it easy to travel on from Buenos Aires to explore more of the country. Launched in October 2018, travellers can now connect from their London to Buenos Aires flight onto Córdoba, Mendoza, Iguazú, Salta and more, making it much easier to explore in one trip the buzzing city of Buenos Aires, the beautiful vineyards around Mendoza, the colonial city of Salta, and the magnificent Iguazú Falls.

Norwegian Airlines are also launching the UK's cheapest flights to Brazil from spring 2019. They will fly four times a week direct from London Gatwick to Rio de Janeiro, so you can now head to this vibrant city even easier and without breaking the bank. Rio then makes the perfect springboard to explore the rest of Brazil.

British Airways has launched a new summer route from Heathrow to the Slovenian capital of Ljubljana, which is great as a starting point for a trip around Slovenia. Explore the pocket-sized capital city with its famous castle on a hill (no, not Ed Sheeran's one) and head to beautiful Lake Bled and Triglav National Park. You could easily combine time in Slovenia with Italy, and head to either the Dolomites or Venice. Or there are also new British Airways services to Split, so you could begin in Istria, on the north Croatian coast (not far from Ljubljana) and travel down to Split, either on a road trip or island hopping adventure.

South Africa

Since the end of October 2018, British Airways have been running direct flights between London and Durban three times a week, opening up the KwaZulu Natal region in the north east of South Africa. A great itinerary making the most of this route could be a safari in one of the region's private game reserves, followed by some beach time across the border in Mozambique. Or stick in South Africa and explore Durban or the iSimangaliso Wetland Park, which is home to over 520 species of bird.

British Airways are launching new flights from Heathrow to Osaka from the end of March 2019, flying four times a week - perfect for anyone planning to explore the island of Honshu extensively, as you can fly home directly without returning to Tokyo at the end of your trip. Osaka is Japan's second largest city and was named the third most liveable city in the world in 2018. It is also the food capital of Japan so is not one to be missed for any keen foodies. To make the most of this new flight, begin by flying into Tokyo before exploring the likes of Hakone, the Japanese Alps and Kyoto, before ending up in Osaka and flying home from there.

From the end of January, Bangkok Airways will be adding flights from Bangkok to Nha Trang, on the Vietnamese coast, making it easy to get from London Heathrow to Nha Trang in just two flights. With miles of white sand beaches, offshore coral reefs that are great for snorkelling, and some beautiful beach hideaways to stay in, Nha Trang makes a great beach honeymoon destination. From there, either explore more of Vietnam or Thailand, or head straight home via Bangkok.

From 2 June 2019, SilkAir will be running daily flights from Singapore to Cairns, meaning there are no restrictions on travel dates to explore Queensland during our summer. Dive or snorkel on the Great Barrier Reef, visit the picture-perfect white sand beaches of the Whitsunday islands or swap the coast for dense jungle and head into the Daintree Rainforest, where you can enjoy a guided tour led by a local aboriginal guide, learning skills such as traditional aboriginal hunting methods and which plants can be used for medicinal purposes.
