Welcome to North America: for couples that lust after long open roads and endless adventures. Dive straight in to our favourite suggestions for a luxury honeymoon to North America.
The American West
Beginners beware; the art of galloping across the American West while maintaining John Wayne-style composure is tricky. However, once mastered, it is heroically romantic and a free pass to the chivalry-ain't-dead club. After all, why wouldn't you want to lasso a cow in honour of your new bride? We know the very best dude ranches for a slice of the cowboy lifestyle, or for couples wanting something chic and boutique head to Paws Up, Montana. The 28 luxury ranch homes have panoramic vistas and deep roll top baths; perfect for post-wedding relaxation. The spa is seriously swoony and if you're feeling generous you can offer up a treatment to your four-legged friend in the form of a 60 minute massage.
Las Vegas is synonymous with hedonism, great entertainment and American excess. Where else could you have Elvis, Marilyn Monroe and Dolly Parton on stand-by with the champagne? Our top pick from the never ending list of high spec hotels is The Wynn. It was difficult to choose from the 4,750 rooms but we can just about narrow the selection to the sumptuous Tower Suites with private check in and elevators - perfect for couples who want to feel like Brangelina. Continuing with the theme of large proportions, Las Vegas is a gateway to Utah, which is home to no less than 5 national parks including Bryce and Zion. Add a heli-trip over the Grand Canyon and you've got a heart pumping honeymoon hit list.
For couples who believe that variety is the spice of life, why not combine uber-cool Vancouver city, with wild and romantic Vancouver Island in the South-West corner of British Columbia? Vancouver city has all the attractions you would expect for somewhere once voted ""Best City in the America"" by Conde Nast Traveller, including art galleries, museums and an impressive aquarium home to beluga whales and sea lions. Just across the Strait of Georgia from this most civilised of cities lies Vancouver Island, a perfect example of the wilder side of Canada, which includes orcas, humpbacks, eagles and bears. The main island is the size of Wales making honeymoon isolation quite easy to find, especially at Clayoquot Wilderness Resort. Clayoquot has a ""cloud camp"" (that's code for a high-altitude-amazing-glamping-experience) that can only be reached by helicopter. To make this honeymoon combo even cooler (if that's even possible), head to the famed all year round ski resort of Whistler, a mere hour and a half drive from Vancouver.
Start your journey as man and wife with an epic road trip along the Californian coastline. You can set your own pace, hop into an all-American Mustang and marvel at the Pacific Coast's dramatic scenery and pounding surf. Active types don't have to feel confined to the steering wheel though; a luxury honeymoon to California includes majestic Redwood forests, sumptuous vineyards, glamour of Hollywood and the brilliantly blue water of Lake Tahoe. Our favourite pit stop? Celeb spotting in The Polo Lounge at The Pink Palace (aka the Beverly Hills Hotel).
Hawaii will enchant couples who love to island hop and bask in nature's glory. It seems fitting then that Hawaii's sandy beaches range in colour from white, red, black and green (yes, green). The tropical scenery is so romantic that you could stay in a hut and still have the honeymoon of a lifetime. However, we prefer Hotel Wailea, which is one of the few boutique hotels in Hawaii with a relaxed, hippy vibe. Combine that with temperatures between 25 and 29 degrees year round and it's really worth those extra air miles. Our Hawaii honeymoon planner, Hero, described her ascent of Haleakala volcano, on the island of Maui, as like stepping on to the surface of the moon. How's that for an original and out of this world honeymoon?
