The third-largest of the Caribbean islands and a melting pot of culture, Jamaica offers far more than a sun-soaked beach break. Discover the icons of the island on this ten-day trip between the groovy capital, historical communities, tropical rainforests and renowned coffee plantations.

Kick off in Kingston, where you can duck into record stores, admire urban frescoes, stroll the streets of Trench Town and sample local specialities at Coronation Market. This is the beating heart of the island, after all.

Then, heed the call of the coast and head to Port Antonio. When you’re not using the town as a base to venture out and discover more of Jamaica’s vibrant culture, you can tuck into a string of fiery feasts, dip your toes in the ocean and explore the nearby jungle.

Finally, delve deeper into the island’s lush interior with a few days in the Blue Mountains. Home to scenic hiking trails, hilltop panoramas, verdant vegetation and world-renowned coffee (yes, please), this landscape takes ending on a high note literally.

Itinerary

100% customisable for you

SPF at the ready – your classic jaunt to Jamaica kicks off today. Head to the airport, whizz through security and slip away to the lounge for some peace and quiet before departure. Flights to Kingston, the country’s capital, take ten hours, giving you plenty of time to sit back, crack open a good book and... relax.

Thanks to the time difference, you’ll land early this afternoon, ready to grab your bags and meet your private driver for the transfer to your hotel. When you arrive, check in for two nights, divvy up the sides of the bed and freshen up before heading back out to explore your new surroundings.

Having worked up quite the appetite, turn your thoughts towards dinner tonight. If you’re in need of some guidance, our detailed Dossier is chock full of stellar restaurant recommendations – time to dig in.

After breakfast this morning, hit the streets for a private tour of Kingston with a local guide. Ecstatic and lively, the city is renowned for its good vibes and musical icons (we’re talking about the likes of Bob Marley, of course).

It makes sense, then, to explore Kingston through its musical scene, the big hitters of which are mento, ska, rocksteady, dub, dancehall and – you guessed it – reggae.

Start by strolling along Orange Street, ducking into a few of its renowned record stores along the way. Then, visit the Trench Town Cultural Yard Museum to delve into the history of Bob Marley and the Wailers.

After this, set your sights on the hub of Coronation Market, the largest market on the island. Once your senses have been scintillated, hit up the Bunny Lee Museum and Recording Studio before ending your exploration along Fleet Street and Water Lane, both of which are filled with musical murals and street art.

If you’re still craving some sonic sightseeing this morning, head to the Bob Marley Museum, where you can explore the reggae legend’s home and wander around his recording studio. Word to the wise: this is the place to nab an iconic souvenir.

After indulging in a lovely lunch, grab your bags and collect your hire car to embark on the two-hour drive to the outskirts of Port Antonio. This pretty city sits on Jamaica’s northeast coast and is capital of the Portland parish.

Check in for three nights, top up your suncream and head out this afternoon. The rest of the day is yours to spend scoping out your suave new digs and kicking back in the lead up to dinner. If you haven’t already, now’s the time for a seafood-centric meal…

The name of the game today: learning more about Jamaica’s past. Tuck into another bountiful breakfast this morning before donning your sunnies and stepping into the heat to meet a friendly local guide.

Hop in a car for the private transfer to the highlands of eastern Jamaica, where you’ll visit the Maroon community of Moore Town. UNESCO-listed, it’s one of five remaining settlements consisting of the descendants of 17th-century runaway African slaves.

Start with a tour of the local heritage centre to discover everyday artefacts, traditional artwork and historical testimonies. Then, rub shoulders with the locals at a traditional dance session.

Having skipped to the rhythm of the drums, sit down to share a meal with the community this afternoon. Following a round of fond farewells, head back to the beach this evening to round out the day watching the waves lap the shore. Utter bliss.

Today is free for you to do as you please. If you’re raring to go, lace up your walking boots – or a well-worn pair of trainers – and venture out to Reach Falls.

Embark on a gentle hike following the river to see a series of natural pools and vibrant vegetation. No less than 23 species of endemic ferns, black parrots and even a few wild pigs (yes, really) live here, so keep your eyes peeled...

Alternatively, if you fancy slipping into a slower pace, you can bask in the beauty of the beach, take a trip to the Blue Lagoon or sample patties (puff pastry turnovers filled with meat, shrimp or vegetables) at Port Antonio Market.

End the day in style with an umbrella-topped cocktail overlooking the sunset – bonus points if it’s made with local rum. It doesn’t come much better than this.

Bid the coast a fond farewell this morning as you grab your bags and meet your private driver to head inland towards the Blue Mountains. The journey takes just under an hour and a half, so don’t hesitate to request some road trip tunes.

After arriving, settle in for three nights in your next home away from home. Then, following some unpacking and post-car-journey stretching, head back out this afternoon to admire the unspoilt natural beauty of the surrounding hills.

This evening, toast to the final leg of your trip over a mouth-watering meal before sinking into a plush stack of pillows to rest up for the adventures of tomorrow.

Go easy on the caffeine at breakfast this morning, because today, you’ll be visiting a local coffee plantation. Coffee connoisseurs may recognise the name Jamaica Blue Mountain Coffee, but for those who don’t, it’s a high-quality bean exclusive to this corner of the world.

Accompanied by an expert local guide, set off on a stroll through the plantation. Along the way, learn intricate details about the production process, from growing to sorting and grading.

Sporting some newfound coffee knowledge, retreat to a shaded area this afternoon for a well-earned tasting. New morning staple incoming...

Indulge in a slow start this morning before heading out to enjoy your last full day in Jamaica. The plan today is blissfully open, allowing you to spend your time however you please.

To rack up some seriously high step counts, fish out your hiking gear and explore the Blue Mountains National Park. Several trails weave through this lush landscape, making it ideal for walkers of any level.

Elsewhere, you could enjoy another brush with Bob Marley’s island-wide legacy by meeting a private driver and embarking on the two-hour journey to Bull Bay, where Bob Marley Beach and the Cane River Falls await.

All sounding a little lacking on the foodie front? Don’t worry, you can follow yesterday’s coffee craze with a visit to a cocoa plantation today. Fair warning: it may induce a sugar rush.

Sadly, your classic Jamaican jaunt comes to an end today. Tuck into one last bountiful breakfast this morning (you are on holiday, after all) before checking out and meeting your private driver for the two-hour transfer back to Kingston Airport.

Your return flight takes just over nine hours, so you’ll spend the night on board and arrive the following morning, just in time to trial some of that Jamaican Blue Mountain Coffee you – hopefully – picked up after your tour.
