This small settlement can be found on the southern coast of Easter Island (or Rupa Nui, its native name) and can be reached by taking a five-hour flight from the Chilean mainland. Despite being one of the most remote places in all of Chile, Hanga Roa offers plenty of activities. From hiking and exploring volcanic caves to discovering iconic landmarks and pristine beaches, Hanga Roa is the perfect place to get away from it all. This quaint town is home to one of the most iconic landmarks in Chile, the moai. These mysterious stone statues scattered across the island were carved by ancient tribes and on a tour with a local guide, you can learn about the mystery behind their creation. If you’re feeling active, set off for a hike up Mount Terevaka which offers incredible sweeping views of Hanga Roa, or, for a more sedate outing, walk through the winding streets of the town which will lead you to an unexpected restaurant or craft shop dotted along the cove and cafes offering spectacular sunset views from their terraces.
