Itinerary

100% customisable for you

Yee-haw! Your ranching holiday kicks off today with a ten-hour flight to Denver. After touching down in the USA, hop on a short domestic flight to Jackson Hole, your destination for the night.

Pick up your hire car and head over to your hotel to freshen up and drop off your bags. Then, if you've got the energy, set out to explore this small Wyoming town, which has a distinctive Wild West feel thanks to its traditional buildings and boardwalks. Discover its bustling bars and restaurants (complete with live music) before hitting the hay.

After a hearty breakfast this morning, hop in your hire car and head north to the UNESCO-listed Yellowstone National Park. You’ll spend the next two nights in this spectacular spot, a former Native American refuge bordering Wyoming, Montana and Idaho.

Spend your first day marvelling at Yellowstone’s must-see sights, including the legendary Old Faithful Geyser and dramatic Grand Canyon, and exploring the park’s myriad geothermal wonders, from its fumaroles to its hot springs and waterfalls.

On day two, venture into the wilderness for a wildlife-watching excursion. Head out at dawn with an expert nature guide for a chance to spot moose, bison, wolves, mule deer, and black and grizzly bears.

Today, head north to the Mammoth Hot Springs area for one night in a comfortable lodge. Once you’ve settled in, it’s time to explore the impressive limestone terraces and hydrothermal features that give the area its name. Wander the boardwalks that weave among the steaming hot springs and keep your eyes peeled for local species such as elk and bison.

You can also drive to one of the nearby waterfalls, like the impressive 60ft-tall Undine Falls, or embark on a short hike to reach the cascading 79ft-tall Wraith Falls.

Bid Yellowstone (and Wyoming) a fond farewell this morning, as you embark on the next leg of your journey. You don't have far to travel – drive about 20 miles north-west of Yellowstone and the Rocky Mountains, and the landscape transforms into the rolling prairies of Montana. Tucked in this dreamy landscape is the ranch where you’ll spend the next five nights (lucky things).

Make yourself at home and leave the modern world behind at the welcoming ranch, where authenticity and comfort rule. For the rest of the day, soak in the stunning natural surroundings and let the adventure begin...

The best thing about life on a ranch? There’s something to suit every mood and interest (trust us). For the next four days, take your pick from a range of activities and experiences. Start your days with sunrise yoga; ride or mountain bike through the awe-inspiring landscapes of the American West; and try your hand at rodeo with the help of some real-life cowboys.

You can also learn the art of fly fishing or canoe down the beautiful river, practice hitting targets in archery, enjoy country music performances in the saloon and taste plenty of delicious food grilled on the ranch's big barbecue (just like in the movies). Spend your evenings toasting marshmallows around the campfire with fellow guests and the owners as you swap stories about the day's adventures.

Wave goodbye to ranch life today and take the road along the Gallatin Highway to Bozeman, a lively Wild West city surrounded by hills and fir trees against a backdrop of snowy peaks. In our humble opinion, this is one of the most beautiful spots in Montana.

Settle in for a night at a characterful motel before exploring the city for the rest of the day. Must-sees include the Museum of the Rockies, dedicated to natural history and renowned for housing the world's largest collection of dinosaur fossils. There are also plenty of charming shops to browse in the downtown area, and beautiful hiking trails galore (this is Montana, after all).

Sadly, all good things must come to an end – including your holiday. Pick up any final souvenirs (make sure you’ve got all the cowboy essentials) and enjoy one last wander around Bozeman, before making your way to the airport for your flight home. Buckle up for an overnight flight with a stopover in a US city, touching down in London the next morning full of tales from your trip...

Suggestions

Everything in this itinerary is entirely customisable, down to the smallest details. Here are some more suggestions of what could be included

RAFTING ON SNAKE RIVER

Fun family adventures in the great outdoors don’t get much better than this. Thrill-seekers can sit up front in the action, while the centre or back of the raft is better for children (and tentative adults) seeking a less intense – but no less enjoyable – experience.

Optional - Departing from Jackson

FLY OVER THE GRAND TETON NATIONAL PARK

Take to the skies for stunning views across the wilderness of the Gros Ventre Mountains, Jackson Hole and the Teton range. This scenic flight takes you over a seven-mile-long landslide that blocks the Gros Ventre River, creating the Lower Slide Lake. Fly over Sleeping Indian (a distinctive ridge on Sheep Mountain surrounded by thousands of wildflowers in the spring), Teton Pass and the Cathedral Group (which boasts views of the three jagged peaks: Grand Teton, Middle Teton and South Teton).

Optional - Departing from Jackson
