Inspiration for your own tailor-made trip
Sweden – Swedish Lapland – Harads – Gunnarsbyn
100% customisable for you
Head to the airport, breeze through security and slip away to the lounge for some complimentary nibbles before take-off – your Big Short Break in Swedish Lapland begins today. Flights to Lulea connect through Stockholm and take around five-and-a-half hours, so sit back, relax and crack open a good book (bonus points if it’s set in the snow).
Land in Lulea this afternoon, where you’ll be met and privately transferred to Gunnarsbyn, an hour’s journey away. Here, nestled near the Rane River Valley, check in to a cosy hotel for the next two nights and don your winter wear to start exploring.
Take in the Arctic wilderness this afternoon on a gentle stroll through the snow before returning to your lodge for a hot chocolate (or a mulled wine) to tide you over until dinnertime.
Wake up bright and early this morning and tuck into a tasty breakfast before venturing out into the cold. Today, you’re meeting a local musher (a person who handles a team of sled dogs) for a husky-led safari.
Once you’ve been introduced to your new furry friends and learned the ropes – literally – of handling them, climb onto a sled and whoosh through the forest. Look out for local wildlife along the way, including moose, red foxes, reindeer and roe deer. Eager birdwatchers should also keep an eye (and a camera) out for the area’s beautiful birds.
Pause for a lovely lunch around a campfire before returning to your hotel this afternoon. Then, check out and meet your private driver for the hour-long transfer to Harads – another jewel of the region.
When you arrive, check in for two nights and spend the afternoon settling in. Soak in your scenic surroundings tonight and warm up with a hearty meal (yes, please).
Another day, another Arctic adventure. Fuel up with a bountiful breakfast this morning before bundling into your coats and heading out into the wild – there’s back-to-back winter wonders waiting for you today.
First on the agenda is a cool combo of snowshoeing and ice fishing. Strap on a pair of snowshoes and set off to explore the wilderness with an expert local guide. Then, once you’ve racked up your step counts, try your hand at ice fishing. Your guide will pick a spot and provide some nifty tips and tricks, which (hopefully) will result in a catch or two.
Tonight, head out after dark for an ice dining experience (ice isn’t on the menu, don’t worry). Hop on a snowmobile to a frozen lake, where you’ll enjoy a delicious dinner made from local ingredients. Once stomachs are full and cheeks are rosy, return to your hotel to sink into a sumptuous stack of pillows.
Sadly, your time in Swedish Lapland comes to an end today. Delight in one last decadent breakfast (bring on the pastries) this morning before gathering your belongings and meeting your private driver for the one-hour transfer back to Lulea.
Here, you’ll hop on a speedy flight to Stockholm to catch your international flight home. The whole journey takes around four-hours-and-40-minutes, meaning you’ll land before the sun sets on your snowy Scandi sojourn.
