  • Recharge in a Renaissance palace transformed into an arty hotel
  • Explore Naples with a private local guide, dipping into workshops, palaces and markets
  • See the UNESCO World Heritage site of Pompeii through an expert’s eyes
Naples lives life large, and it doesn’t waste time easing you in. One moment you’re swooning over the sweeping bay, shimmering in Vesuvius’ shadow; the next, you’re in the thick of it, scooters skimming past, laundry lines zigzagging overhead, coffee bars busy at the elbows. Come nightfall, the city sharpens its sparkle further: legendary nightlife, late dinners that drift into the small hours, and an energy that hits like a double espresso. Spend four days soaking this all in, punctuated with a visit to Pompeii for a dose of history.

Beyond the bustle there’s serious beauty here. Italy’s great southern powerhouse, Naples boasts a host of cultural riches. Bursting with astonishing art and architecture, its streets are lined with luxurious palazzos (palaces) and historic masterpieces lie around almost every corner. Whether you come for the San Martino Carthusian monastery’s ornate courtyards and the fantastical beauty of the San Carlo Theatre, or the contemporary punch of the Donnaregina Museum, where artworks by Warhol, Mapplethorpe and more draw a steady crowd, you’ll be spoiled for choice.

Anchored by two private guided tours – one introducing you to the city’s finest haunts, the other to Pompeii – this long weekend still allows plenty of space to detour, linger over coffee, and watch Naples do its thing. It also pairs beautifully with destinations like Capri and the Sorrento peninsula for a longer Italian getaway.

Your Hotel:

Your home for the next three nights is a serene Renaissance palazzo located in the Sanita district, a short stroll from the picturesque Vergini market and the archaeological museum. Nearby, you’ll also find the Basilica di Santa Maria della Sanita and Palazzo dello Spagnolo – two magnificent Baroque beauties well worth a purposeful detour.

A seductive retreat from the city’s buzz, the palazzo exudes luxurious calm. Rooms blend elegant design with restorative comfort, giving you a beautiful space to decompress between adventures. Outside an inviting terrace shaded by lemon trees is made for an afternoon spritz or a late-night aperitif. Breakfast is a highlight, too: generous, hearty and full of goodness, it’s the ideal launching pad for whatever the day has in store.

Your Itinerary:

The clock is ticking, so to ensure you see Naples at its best, your long-weekend is peppered with a few standout moments that you’d kick yourself for missing.

First up, you’ll head out with a resident expert guide for an inside-track introduction to the city. The quickest, most rewarding way to get under Naples’ skin – think less box-ticking tour, more hanging out with a well-connected, creative friend. Relaxed, spontaneous, and shaped to your tastes, the route is deliberately flexible, weaving through historic residences, grand palaces and everyday backstreets, with the chance to swing by craftsmen, painters and sculptors’ workshops along the way. Just share what you’re most curious about, and your guide will tailor the time to suit. And if that happens to be shopping (and nobody’s judging), you’re in excellent hands. Whether you’re seeking divine delicatessens, clever vintage finds, artisan homewares or high fashion boutiques to rival Milan’s, your guide has the address book you need. Consider it souvenir shopping, quietly elevated.

Then comes the UNESCO World Heritage site of Pompeii. When Vesuvius erupted in 79 AD, this once-magnificent city was buried in ash, perfectly preserving it in time. Today, nearly 2,000 years on, Pompeii offers the most complete time-capsule of ancient Roman life anywhere on the planet. With your hugely knowledgeable private guide – who knows every inch of the excavated site and delights in bringing it vividly back to life – you’ll explore the remarkably intact city, from its forum and thermal baths to grand properties like the House of Meleager and the Villa of Mysteries. Your visit is deliberately scheduled outside peak hours, so you’ll dodge the thickest crowds and enjoy the bonus of sunset, as a golden glow falls across the city, bathing it in honeyed light.

Beyond these, your time here is gloriously fluid, so you can follow your nose down an intriguing alleyway, retrace your steps to a shop that caught your eye, or simply linger over an aperitivo and watch the city perform. Think highlights, then breathing space. But if you’d like more help with filling your time, just ask. We can prearrange a jam-packed itinerary with a hefty step-count to match, or our Concierge can advise on the day.

Suggestions

Everything in this itinerary is entirely customisable, down to the smallest details. Here are some more suggestions of what could be included

AN EVENING AT THE SAN CARLO THEATRE

Step inside Naples’ sumptuous Neoclassical theatre and you’ll instantly understand why people dress up for a night here, even if they insist they ‘don’t really do opera’. Opened in 1737, the Teatro di San Carlo is widely regarded as the oldest continuously active opera house in the world, and that delicious sense of history clings to its every surface.

An opulent architectural gem, the theatre’s auditorium alone offers drama enough. Awash with red velvet and gold, sweeping tiers of boxes – stacked six floors high like an aristocrat’s wedding cake – are topped by a magnificent, frescoed ceiling. Even outside of performances, this is old-world splendour at its finest. But when the lights dip, the curtain lifts and the first notes land, the atmosphere transcends into another dimension. This is an unforgettable treat, so arrive early to soak up the pre-performance buzz and enjoy Naples at its most elegant.

FROM NAPLES TO POSILLIPO BY ELECTRIC BIKE

One of the most beautiful cities on the Mediterranean, Naples’ glorious labyrinth of narrow alleyways, with colourful washing hanging overhead, are a wanderer’s delight. Still, some of the city’s best viewpoints sit just far enough away to make walking feel like hard work. The solution? Exploring by electric bike. A superb way to soak up the spectacle of the streets without sweating it, led by a private guide, you’ll glide through the old town’s historic centre to the seafront, before breezing up Posillipo Hill for breathtaking views of the Gulf of Naples and Vesuvius. The leisurely ride takes around three-and-a-half hours, with time built in for pausing whenever something takes your fancy (that gelato won’t eat itself).
