Thorntree River Lodge is situated inside Mosi Oa Tunya National Park, on the banks of the river where elephant and other game wander freely.
Built with an environmentally-conscious design the lodge draws its inspiration from local customs and culture and the tented roofs add an authentic taste of Africa. There are just eight double rooms and two family units in total, furthering the back to nature feel. However, once inside, each of the rooms is designed with absolute luxury in mind. There are both indoor and outdoor bathrooms that look out across the river, pull-back glass doors opening onto large terraces with private plunge pools, and inside, contemporary décor which uses traditional Zambian artwork to add warmth to the neutral colour schemes.
The main lodge is built right on the edge of the river to create a seamless transition between land and water, as if the lodge were actually cruising along the river. The sunken boma is the perfect spot to sit with a cool drink, and dining is done on the large open deck. Cuisine served here is traditional and flavourful, with a fine dining twist and immaculate presentation, making for a really special African dining experience.
Facilities include an infinity pool overlooking the river, a rejuvenating spa and a small gym with views of the wetlands. Venturing out of the lodge, activities include visits to nearby and utterly spectacular Victoria Falls, cultural village visits, sunset river cruises and trips to the Livingstone Museum.
