Fancy a walk on the wild side? This 15-day Zambian adventure takes you from the populous plains of South Luangwa National Park to the iconic spectacle of Victoria Falls.

Start in Lusaka, where you’ll spend one night settling in – filled with eager anticipation – before delving into the heart of the bush in Luangwa. Here, spend your days tracking wildlife on a mix of early-morning bush walks and afternoon game drives (followed by a few evening drinks for good measure).

After South Luangwa, you’ll spend the next three nights in Kafue National Park, a vast and varied wonderland brimming with everything from big cats, elephants and buffalo to several unusual antelope species, including sable, roan, puku, oribi and lechwe.

Next up? Swap grasslands for wetlands in Lower Zambezi National Park. Here, the river is the star of the show, meaning boating, fishing, kayaking and (of course) canoeing safaris. But there’s also plenty to do on land. Walking safaris, as well as day and night excursions, ensure a steady stream of animal encounters – lucky you.

Once you’ve immersed yourself in the water-logged wilderness of Zambezi, jet over to Livingstone for the final flourish: the UNESCO World Heritage site of Victoria Falls. Where better to spend the last two nights of your ultimate Zambian adventure?

Itinerary

100% customisable for you

Pack your bags because your ultimate Zambian adventure begins today. Make your way to the airport to catch your overnight flight to Lusaka, via Johannesburg, a journey that takes approximately 16 hours. You’ll have plenty of time to tune into our destination-specific playlist and free up space in your camera roll for all the spectacular wildlife photos you’re about to take.

When you arrive, you’ll be privately transferred to your boutique hotel, a 30-minute drive away. Drop your bags, stretch your legs and (if you’re up for it) head out for a delicious dinner in the capital – your Concierge will be happy to point you in the right direction. But if you’re too tired after your travels, don’t worry – the hotel’s restaurant will be sure to dish up something equally tasty.

This morning, you’ll be privately transferred to the airport for your one-hour flight to Mfuwe. When you touchdown, another private transfer will be waiting to take you to your first camp of the trip, an intimate site nestled deep within South Luangwa National Park. Eyes peeled (and cameras poised), you might spot some of Luangwa's wonderful wildlife during the drive.

You’ll arrive in time for a deliciously fresh lunch, then you can unpack, settle in and explore the camp. This afternoon, game viewing is the name of the... well, game. Luangwa's grasslands are home to four of the 'Big Five' (rhinos being the missing link), plus 60 mammal species and over 400 bird species – which more than makes up for the absence. Accompanied by an expert guide, learn about the park and its wildlife as you trek across the bush.

This evening, return to camp, tuck into a delicious dinner and drift off to the soothing sounds of the bush at night.

In Zambia, the early bird certainly does catch the worm. Walking safaris at dawn offer a completely different perspective of the bush. So, for the next few days, experience Zambia’s morning magic by setting off bright and early. Accompanied by a clued-up private guide, track wildlife, identify spoor marks and learn about the medicinal properties of the region’s indigenous plant life – time to don your explorer’s hats.

Spend the rest of your time relaxing back at camp. Then, in the afternoons, head out in a 4x4 to discover more of the reserve and enjoy even closer wildlife encounters – cameras at the ready. Afterwards, spend your evenings wining, dining and sharing tales of your terrific safaris around the campfire.

After a delicious breakfast, pack your bags and set off on a 4x4 drive, travelling out of South Luangwa National Park to Mfuwe Airport, where you'll catch a speedy one-hour flight back to Lusaka. While you’re in the air, keep your eyes glued to the windows for your final sweeping views over the park – don't worry, there’s plenty more Zambian excellence to come.

When you land, you’ll be whisked off to Kafue National Park, where another intimate luxury camp awaits: your home for the next three nights. Stretch your legs, do a spot of unpacking and treat yourself to a welcome drink. Tomorrow will bring a world of animal encounters.

Stretching over 8,500 square miles of lush wilderness, Kafue National Park is bursting with wildlife, from big cats, elephants, buffalo and hippos to the more unusual sable, roan, puku, oribi and lechwe antelope species.

The next few days are yours for the taking, so you can fully immerse yourself in these vast, secluded plains. Spend your mornings on foot and your afternoons on 4x4, tracking curious creatures and living out the safari of your wildest dreams (we couldn’t resist). Watch a herd of lions on the prowl, stroll past the lechwe grazing on the grasslands and retire to the intimate atmosphere of your camp in the evenings.

This morning, bid a fond farewell to the vast plains of Kafue National Park as you prepare for the brisk one-hour flight to Lower Zambezi National Park. Once again, while you’re in the air, keep your eyes fixed on the windows – you'll likely spot a herd of buffalo thundering through the grasslands as you pass over.

When you land, head to your home away from home for the next three nights: a cosy camp perched on the banks of the Zambezi River. After arriving, stretch your legs, freshen up and tuck into a delightful dinner before hitting the hay.

We've left the next two days free for you to enjoy the camp’s wealth of activities and excursions at your own pace. The biggest difference between Lower Zambezi National Park and Kafue is that, here, the Zambezi River (and all who dwell in it) is the main event. So, climb aboard a pontoon boat and explore the main bank, islands and channels for a chance to see crocs lurking, hippos sunbathing and elephants crossing.

Fancy an even closer look? (Who wouldn’t?) Embark on a canoeing safari with an expert guide to drift in near-silence along the water – wildlife watching in its purest form.

Back on land, explore Zambezi’s wildlife from a different angle with a mix of walking safaris and thrilling day and night game drives – the latter including sundowners, of course. Expect to see large herds of elephants and buffalo, as well as lightning-fast cheetahs, hackling hyenas and prowling prides of lions.

Afterwards, under the evening glow of your camp, indulge in cocktails on the veranda, enjoy a siesta by the pool and tuck into hearty meals to refuel after your adventure-filled days.

From Lower Zambezi, travel south to the mighty Victoria Falls – or 'The Smoke That Thunders' as it’s known locally – for the final chapter of your journey. To reach the falls, board a connecting flight to Livingstone via Lusaka (the journey takes between two and four hours, depending on connections). You’ll be spending your next two nights in a lovely lodge, perched on the calm waters upstream of the main event.

After you've settled in, head out on an afternoon river cruise for the ultimate introduction to this watery wonderland. Back on dry land, it’s time to relax and wind down for the evening, resting up before the epic closing act tomorrow.

Ready for one last unforgettable adventure? Today is all about exploring the mighty Victoria Falls, a UNESCO World Heritage site located on the border between Zimbabwe and Zambia. Here, the Zambezi River plunges into a chasm over 300ft high and roughly one mile wide – safe to say, there’s a lot of ground to cover.

Thankfully, you’ll have plenty of time in this natural wonderland as you head out on a private tour with a passionate local guide. Armed with a rain jacket, walk along the bridge spanning the gorge for dramatic views of the falls and the spectacular rapids below. While the bridge is a great viewpoint, we highly recommend going a level up – literally. For truly spectacular views and unbeatable photos, take to the skies for a short helicopter ride over the site.

Craving more adventure? Try one (or several) of the many hair-raising activities on offer here, from whitewater rafting on the rapids to bungee jumping from the Victoria Falls Bridge. Or you could simply enjoy the view, snap some killer shots and return to the tranquillity of your lodge to relax by the pool – you've earned it, after all.

Sadly, all great adventures must come to an end. After one last breakfast under the Zambian sun, pack your bags and wave goodbye to the falls as you begin your journey home. Start with a domestic two-hour flight to Johannesburg. From here, catch your international flight home, a journey which takes just over 11 hours. You’ll be travelling overnight, so you’ll have plenty of time to rest up before you touchdown in the UK tomorrow morning, ready to regale friends and family with tales of your ultimate Zambian adventure.
