Inspiration for your own tailor-made trip
Zambia – Livingstone – Lower Zambezi – South Luangwa
100% customisable for you
Your Zambian adventure begins today. Head to the airport, whizz through security and settle into the lounge for refreshments before boarding your overnight flight. Routes to Livingstone from the UK typically pass through Doha, Nairobi or Johannesburg, taking between 15 and 20 hours in total.
When you arrive the next morning, your driver will be waiting to whisk you off to your home for the next two nights: safari-style bungalows on the banks of the Zambezi River, with Victoria Falls just a hop, skip and a jump downstream.
Spend the rest of today settling in. Tuck into delicious food at the restaurant, take a dip in the outdoor swimming pool or simply enjoy the views from your room, ready for the real exploring to begin tomorrow.
After a slap-up breakfast this morning, head out to explore your surroundings on horseback.
It doesn’t matter if you’re a novice or a pro: the instructors can tailor the outing to your experience and preferences, and being in the saddle offers an epic perspective on the nature around you.
The Zambezi River is teeming with diverse wildlife, especially birds, so keep your eyes peeled as you ride downstream. Mammals come to drink at dawn, so you might spot hippos, buffalo and elephants dipping their noses into this vast watering hole. Continuing southeast, you'll reach Livingstone and Victoria Falls, one of the most breathtaking natural spectacles in Africa.
Alternatively, follow in the footsteps of a ranger on a walking safari to see white rhinoceros in Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park, or visit Chobe National Park, which sits just across the border in Botswana.
This morning, wave goodbye to your lodge as you’re privately transferred back to Livingstone Airport. Flights to Lower Zambezi typically transfer in Lusaka, taking about four hours in total, so you’ll have just enough time to get stuck into your holiday read before you land.
When you arrive, you’ll be picked up and whisked away to Lower Zambezi National Park, where you’ll be staying for the next two nights. Spend the rest of the day getting used to your surroundings: retreat to the lounge for cold drinks and conversation, bask in the sun or take a book to one of the many cool nooks.
Come evening, it’s time for a delicious dinner and gathering around the campfire.
Today is all about getting acquainted with Lower Zambezi’s incredible landscape. With a backdrop of mountains in the north and the mighty Zambezi River to the south, the park offers an incredible safari experience, with walking, driven and boating tours all available.
Elephants are one of the most frequently spotted animals here, often found wandering through camps or splashing each other in the river. There are also a wide variety of antelopes – waterbuck, bushbuck, hartebeest, impala, and others – which provide ample food for lions and, if you’re lucky, the elusive leopard.
Make sure to enjoy a canoe safari, which lets you get up close to the animals bathing and drinking in the river. Along the way, you’ll likely spot hippos and crocodiles on the water, but don’t worry: you’re in excellent hands with your guide.
Fancy yourself a wildlife photographer? You may also want to snap the lush colours and reflections around the river.
You’re off to your last stop today: South Luangwa National Park. This morning, you’ll be privately transferred to Lusaka for a short one-hour flight up to Mfuwe.
Your base for the next two nights is in a small, secluded camp in the south of the park – a true feast for the senses. Think rondavels (traditional African cottages), thatched roofs and not a smartphone in sight – except perhaps yours, for all the photos.
After you’ve unpacked and freshened up, while away the day with a book or siesta, then head out for an evening game drive.
Today’s your last day on safari, and we’re sure it will be a good one. Thanks to its great guides and wonderful wildlife, South Luangwa National Park is well known as one of the best destinations for walking safaris in the world, and with 3,500 square miles of bushland to explore, each walk is different to the last.
Head out on guided walks or in comfortable 4x4s, looking out for 'Big Five' game, wild dogs and over 400 species of birds as you go. Fancy yourself an amateur photographer? You’re in luck: the camp even has a designated photography vehicle, perfect for capturing action shots of hippos, elephants, zebra and giraffes as they wander across the plains or along the banks of the river.
Sadly, your Zambian adventure is coming to an end today, but hopefully, the incredible wildlife has you heading home feeling rejuvenated by nature.
This morning, hop on a one-hour flight to Lusaka before beginning your international journey home. With a quick stopover, the overnight flight will take around 16 hours, touching down in the UK the following day.
