China Visa Requirements

British nationals need a visa to enter mainland China, including Hainan Island but not Hong Kong or Macao. All applicants aged between 14 and 70 need to make their application in person at a Visa Application Centre in London, Manchester or Edinburgh. If you are just transiting through China, visa waivers are available in certain places. Visitors to Shanghai can apply for a 144-hour visa exemption at the Shanghai General Station of Immigration Inspection. In other transit locations, applications must be made in person upon arrival. If you visit Hong Kong from mainland China and wish to return to the mainland, you’ll need a visa that allows you to make a second entry into China.

Passport Validity for China Travel

Your passport should be valid for a minimum of six months from the date you arrive in China.
