U Bein Bridge, Lake Inle at Sunset

U Bein Bridge, Lake Inle at Sunset

The ultimate photo opportunity. Burma is back, and Inle Lake is a very tranquil and relaxing spot after the hustle and bustle of the cities of Mandalay and Rangoon.

Stilts and leg-rowers

There are several villages inhabited by the local Intha people built on stilts actually over the lake and you can see the elegant leg-rowing fishermen in action, and floating gardens built up from strips of water hyacinth and mud anchored to the bottom with bamboo poles.

U Bein Bridge

One absolute must is to visit the lake's morning market, which rotates location around the villages and is visited by lake inhabitants and surrounding hill tribes who come to sell and trade their wares. But for photographers, THE image is the U Bein bridge at sunset, with people and bridge silhouetted against the setting sun.
