Set on a peninsula overlooking one of Mozambique’s most beautiful beaches, Coral Lodge is renowned for both its location and accommodation.

The surrounding area is a privately owned nature reserve full of beaches, dunes and mangroves that are largely untouched and with everything done to ensure that it stays that way. The lodge is only a short distance from the historical UNESCO World Heritage Site of Ilha de Moçambique, the former Portuguese capital of East Africa.

Each of the ten villas has a luxurious and authentic feel, elegantly combining local design with vivid colours and comfort. Each has its own sitting area and outside terrace for a wonderfully private feel. All of the villas sit in the dunes looking down on the beach and five have a direct ocean view whilst the others are more secluded and have direct view on the mangrove forest and Ilha de Moçambique.

The hotel has its own bar - The Reef - situated at the very tip of the peninsula - the ideal spot for an evening sundowner followed by a delicious supper. Alternatively you can have a private and romantic dinner under the stars next to the hotel's infinity pool.

There is a huge choice of activities at Coral Lodge. Hop aboard the lodge's traditional dhow and learn to sail or fish, or dive or snorkel on the beautiful reefs nearby with one of the lodge's private guides. Take a boat trip and anchor at an uninhabited island for a picnic lunch, and at high tide explore the mangroves for native birds, mangrove crabs and other indigenous animals. For a more cultural experience, visit the local Macua people trading in the local market and learn about the traditional life in local villages. The Spa also beckons and you can enjoy a treatment there or at your own villa.

Why We Love It

The best dive at Coral is to see the fantastic 17th century Portuguese wrecks, complete with broken Chinese porcelain and trading beads
